Skimming through the replies on Twitter, it looks like Grier was also keen to shed a contract, which is why two players went the other way. Now they have met the floor and have a little more flexibility to add players under the 50-contract limit.
EDIT: Holy crap! $34 million in dead cap space. The Sharks are paying nearly as much for players not to play for them as for the players who actually do.

That is cap hit not salary . I suspect actual dollars is actually much less. Some will be insurance, some end of contract lower actual dollars...

That's only true for Price, the other 2 didn't have any signing bonuses, so their salary is somewhat close:
Price $2M; CAP $10.5M
Ellis $5.5M, $4.5M; CAP $6.25M
Couture $7M, $6M; CAP $8M
That's still $25M over 2 years. That's why I always wonder the percentage that's paid by insurance.

That is bonkers.
I guess the Sharks are going to try and bottom out for another season.

Sharks would have incredible Dead Puck Era hockey team if all the retired players they're paying were in their primes. You'd never be able to score on these #######s

Why? It's not real money. It's just cap space, and it gets them to the floor without having any real salary or players taking spots away from their young guys.

Unless their contracts are covered by insurance, pretty sure they still get paid

Damn that's impressive, and another 2 1sts next draft. No half-measures for Grier.

I really like Conroy... but I would love to have Grier take over for one season and then hand the team back to Conny. Kinda like a real life Jack Dalton, except he cleans up hockey clubs instead of blues clubs.

Remember when we thought Calgary was going to use any of our cap space to do anything productive like this?

We also have 2 firsts this year and may get another for either this or next year's draft.
Damn CC is killing it!

Yeah that conditional 6th really moves the needle!
San Jose did it because they need to hit the floor, big difference.

People keep saying they need to hit the floor, but they are way above it and were above it before Price. Capwages has them now 2.9M from the cap now. Don't know why they wanted to grab an additional 7M in LTIR money. Will be interesting to see what they do if their players start hitting their bonuses.
