I am disappointed to see Solo go. I really liked him. I think he was tracking to be a very good bottom-pairing defencemen, which people will often sneer at. Good bottom-pairing d-men are critical I think, especially when a top 4 d-man gets hurt. Solo was - in my opinion - trending in that direction. Hopefully he gets thrown on waivers again soon and the Flames re-claim him.

I just don't know why Miromanov is still up here, and why he wasn't waived ahead of Solo. Or, why wasn't he simply waived on the last day, when more guys are being waived? Anyway, I wish him luck. I really liked him.

Just want to chime in to say I'm elated that Kerins cleared and remains Flames property.

Am a little bummed about Solo getting claimed. If we didn't have such a logjam at D and a clear path to the bottom pairing I think he would've made it within a year. But there are too many guys, and some of them who clearly aren't long for the organization, but were blocking that path anyways.

I was equally high on him and Kuznetsov, even though Kuz looks closer as things stand. But I'm also just as high on Grushnikov. So on the bright side we still have 2/3. And Brz who's just a little behind them developmentally.

I'm sure they are all good kids, but I don't see any of the waiver players becoming full time NHLers here. There are studs coming up the ranks that will eat their lunches.

Maybe somewhere else?

Solo is this generations Jason Morgan. Maybe we will get him back like Morgan.

I would think it would be easier to get him through earlier since most teams are unsure on their rosters. He almost did get through considering the claim was from a top team. Also, Solo is a UFA at years end

Not really. Jason Morgan wasn't really a Flames developed prospect and was a 27-28 year old minor leaguer at the time the Flames put him on waivers. Also, I don't think we ever got him back after.

It's not quite the same as watching a prospect develop and cook in the minors. There is nothing weird about fans getting attached in this case.

Not negating your point, but the Flames lost Morgan on waivers in December of 2003 to Nashville, and re-claimed him in February of 2004.

Five days later they traded him with a conditional pick (Joe Fallon) for Ville Nieminen, who would score more goals in 19 games with the Flames (3) than he did in 60 games with the Hawks (2), and of course, be on the team that went to the Finals.

I would have rather kept him and played him above Miro, Bean or even Hanley. It's not like we don't already know what we have in those guys (not much), and it's not like either choice makes us a contender. Play the young unproven guys and see what we have, this is the time to place low in the standings if it doesn't work out anyways.

The thing bothering me about loosing Solo is that I believe he deserved to play more than 5 games in previous seasons. He did really well in the Ahl but was blocked by nobodies like Bean, Miro and even Hanley. I think he could be a good 4/5 guy but may top out as a 6/7 due to not getting more NHL experience early in his development. I just pray we move on from Bean and Miro soon.

Jake Bean was a 13th overall pick who has over 260 NHL games under his belt. Solo very likely doesn't have as good a career as Bean. Bean had 44 and 48 point AHL seasons.

To put that in perspective:

Solovyov is 25 years old, with career NHL stats of 0–4–4 in 15 GP. In the AHL, 18–51–69 in 229 GP.

At the same age, Bean's numbers were in 9–34–43 in 125 GP (NHL), and 23–69–92 in 129 GP (AHL).

Bean is only two years older. Both players will be eligible for UFA next summer, unless Solovyov plays at least 65 NHL games this season. In the short term, I'd rather have Bean, and neither player has a long term to speak of.

I'd rather have two or three guys currently on the waiver wire.

I do wonder if Solo's UFA status had some thing to do with him hitting waivers when he did. I think it highly unlikely he would have made it to 65 NHL games, so they buried Kuz first and will live with Bean for another year. (Still doesn't explain Miro; he isn't good and doesn't play).

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Miro only played 2 preseason games, and they were both early (the games in Edmonton and Abbotsford), so there's been speculation that he has an injury. If that's the case, they can't waive him until he's healthy.

We'll find out in a couple hours, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him start the season on the IR.

Why are people acting like this is mysterious? The Flames waived Solovyov because they wanted to send him to the AHL. There's no ulterior motive.
