Are you saying crime isn’t on the rise?
When did I say I feel scared to go out?
What I said is that there are other people I am concerned for. Because there is crime happening. You just think because it hasn’t affected you directly then it isn’t a problem.
That’s just foolish.
You must think that Ukraine isn’t being invaded, because it hasn’t affected you directly. Use your head.

This is funny from the guy who said there was no starvation in Gaza.
It’s OK to go outside. You’ll be fine out there.

Is crime up in Canada? Facts say no. You’re overreacting and fixating on the few cases that make the headlines, because that’s the stuff gets clicks. You need to be more savvy and critical of the media you consume. You know why your media is full of crime related news? Because it’s so unusual and infrequent. You’d think plane crashes happen daily and car accidents never if you based it on the news consumption.
I said your worry is misplaced. You’re not scared to go out? So then what exactly are the atrocities happening to you that makes you concerned? I am kind of confused about your stance here. Why would you put yourself at risk if you think it’s so dangerous?

What media do you think I consume?
I said I am concerned for other people. Why is that so hard for you to understand? Because you have no concern for other people?
I am not surprised that you are confused…

It doesn’t matter what media you consume, unless you spend you entire days watching the Great Canadian Baking Show, all you’re going to see is rage bait.
But again, your concern is misplaced. I do care for other people, but I am concerned over real issues, not boogeymen that make me feel angry all the time.
And if my tax dollars are going somewhere I want them fixing real problems, not whatever you or your political idols “feel” is a big problem.

I don’t have time to watch much tv. But I’m sure your baking channels are riveting. Criminals aren’t boogeymen. They are criminals. I am not angry all the time, in fact I’m the opposite.
I’m sure your bazillion tax dollars are being well spent. No problems out there at all!! Hahahaha.

You know media is not limited to just tv, right? Yes, criminals are criminals, but your fear seems to be about boogeymen. You didn’t answer my questions though. Police say crime rates are down, and while you are not worried about going out and stuff, you haven’t really articulated what your concerns are for your loved ones. What dangers or scary gauntlet did you have to pass through that makes you feel this way. I just don’t see any of this as a priority. You’re making this ridiculous claim that everyone (except you of course) should be scared because of so many criminals out there committing crimes. Why aren’t you scared then if it’s as bad as you say it is? Is it a scary world out there or not?

“Thickest neckbeard of CP” said the guy who thought someone was talking about him when they referenced a politician that turned out to be a child pornographer.

Would it be possible for you to bring some evidence?
Is crime on the rise in Canada, would any recent up ticks in crime be reflective of increases or the end and flows of what has become a steady state?
I'm not saying there is no crime. But my claim would be the crime dropped an in credible amount from the 70s in to 00s. And has fluctuated up and down but generally flat compared to past decades for the past 20s. Your claim is crime is up, I would like to see you bring evidence to back your claim.

Yes, I know media is not limited to tv.
I don’t know who the boogeyman is that you keep bringing up, maybe it’s your personal fear?
When did I claim that everyone should be scared to go out?
I would be much, much, happier if crime was decreasing, for everyone’s sake.

It's demonstrably not. 2024's crime rate was lower than either 2022 or 2023's. It was also lower than it was pre-pandemic in 2019. And within a historical context, 2024's crime rate was the 8th lowest in the last 50-60 years.
The Crime Severity Index shows a similar trend. 2024 was lower than 2022 or 2023, lower than pre-pandemic, and significantly lower than any point from the late '60s to 2010.
So overall it's higher than it was in the few years post-financial crisis, but that was a likely demographic-related anomaly that was seen in other countries too. The late 2000s and early 2010s represented the lowest population share for the demographic most likely to commit crimes (males in their late teens and 20s). As they became a smaller and smaller share, overall rates dropped. But now that that cohort's population share has rebounded a bit, crime is slightly elevated compared to the low point, but still very low historically.

I am a lot (read: immensely) more scared of white collar fascist criminals who want more guns on the streets, who happen to be aligned with the IDU, MAGA, UCP, CPC, than I am of any "crime" you seem to be alluding to.
So yeah, crime is a problem.
And we know who the criminals are, they are the Danielle Smiths and Pierre Poillievres of the world. The Pierre Poilievre who had more expenses as opposition leader than Trudeau and Singh combined just a year ago. The Smith who would rather fund a red carpet and foreign espionage liasons than education and health care.
Sorry that your house got robbed, but my tax dollars are getting robbed as we speak and that's the crime that is actually on the rise.

Wow, that's a leap. One of the best long jumps I've seen here in a while.
I have a theory, and have no back up for it, just my gut feeling.
It is irrelevant who is in charge or in power. Crime will continue to fall. You can not step out of your house now and realistically expect to not be caught on camera. Dash cams, doorbell cams, security cameras, cell phones... The list goes on. Criminals simply can't get away with what they easily used to be able to. Cell tower tracking, as well, for more serious offences (murder, etc.). That will trickle down into the crime rates and is only becoming more prevalent.

Not only is it on the rise but the cost per person is skyrocketing. We are watching the UCP grift hundreds of millions to billions of dollars out of provincial services and into the pockets of their friends and overlords for essentially nothing in return.
Then at the same time, they come out and lie about it.
Speaking of lying politicians.... there is this petition in the House of Commons ( Petition E-6679). It is easy to sign it digitally and then we can watch and see how the various parties react to it. I bet you can guess who supports it and who doesn't.
What would be interesting though is if this becomes a Federal law, how would it trickle down into provincial politics.

If you read through the thread there was a lot of leaps taken. I was trying to keep up with the long jump olympics. Hahahaha
