It is absolutely insane. I still laugh that people get so upset when other fans criticize an organization that has 2 playoff series wins in the last 20 years and take it so personally.

I think the problem is most of the arguments from those that criticize are ill thought out and illogical. If the arguments had some relevance to what the Flames organization is doing today they would be more pertinent.

Yup. Most of what's criticized are just lazy cliches and attempts to look clever (which don't work BTW).

Jake Bean is not it.
Yep, Parekh struggled last night with him.
But watching the game back this morning there were shifts where Bahl was with Bean and they looked equally bad.
Unless they plan to put Zayne with a defensive guy who will cover for his offensive upside there’s no real point utilizing him. Bean looks lost out there at the best of times, it wasn’t helping the situation at all.
If they have to keep Bahl with Andersson I’d love to see Weegar with Zayne for at least a game…

Contrast of styles sounds good with Dmen but doesn’t always pan out. Maybe because they just don’t think enough alike and it’s important that partners are on the same page.
Phaneuf did his best with guys like Aucoin and Hamrlik.

People are insane and upset to you? That’s pretty dramatic, you’ve thrown around and thanked some pretty extreme characterizations of people lately, maybe it’s time for a break so you don’t take things so personally and this place so seriously?
I’d say about 90% of the criticism or praise here, where there’s disagreement, gets debated in a totally calm, non-confrontational way, with at worst a few jokes at each others expense. There is a small minority that can’t handle any confrontation, so they blow things way out of proportion.
I hardly think an average person would look at Jiri’s take and read it as dramatically as the previous poster did, or think it’s “insane.” You guys need to relax.

-Klapka is a difference maker. Even if he lacks somewhat in the small things that NHL vets do, he can make a big hit or drive the net in an impossible to stop way that creates momentum
-Weegar and Hanley looked more like themselves from last season
-Wolf is so good. Especially early in the game when it could have gone off the rails
-Farabee was better
The Bad:
-that fourth line is really weak. For a group that is supposed to create energy and momentum, I think the Jets were building almost every time that unit went out
-Coleman still seems off, with bad passes and an obvious penalty
-Bean struggled mightily. Not the right partner for Parekh.
-Coronato is great on faceoffs but then on the powerplay he continued his bad habit this preseason of weak passes leading to turnovers and clears
-Frost made some mind boggling plays in his own zone shooting the puck right to the Jets pointmen.
The Jets are a good team and it's always going to be a challenge for the Flames or any other team to put games to bed against them. Clearly though, the Flames are going to have to find a better way to limit chances against when they get leads because they probably won't enjoy a ton of multi goal leads.
Anyways it was a fun game overall and they looked much closer to the team we saw last year.

I do think the Jets have another gear or two, not sure the Flames do. I agree it was very entertaining and that’s all they owe us as fans at the end of the day.

Bean is a big joke
Not sure what the Flames see in him.
Should just go with someone that may still develop into something
Bean is cooked

His dad is no longer in the ownership group but is still friends with the others I’m sure and did that play a part signing Bean? Maybe, probably. It was a good try bringing him to the Flames because he had a lot of potential once upon a time but you can see why his old teams dumped him.

I love the over reactions to pre season. I am glad the players aren't as a fragile as the fan base who seem to judge their existence on game few of us have ever played. Never change CP.
I used to get excited and base the season projection on how well we did in the preseason until I figured out ... maybe the preseason is there to try new things, and work things out and there will be periods of it looking like crap. I remember many times the flames doing well in preseason only to start the season with multiple losses. Conversely, many times the flames were terrible in preseason, only to start the season with a huge winning streak.
Always wish the Flames well, win or lose.

They see a cheap 6-8 who's only under contract for one year and who's development they won't hurt if he's not playing every game. He'll be out of the picture next year while our younger, more promising defensemen will have another full year of pro hockey under their belts.
He's a placeholder for 1 season, because it's not the like the rebuild would be complete or the competitive window would be open this season if a young player was playing in and out of the lineup for 50-60 games instead of Bean.
It's not hard to figure out.

Didn’t catch the game. I thought it was today and I was out.
For those that did watch it looks like it was way better than the Canucks debacle. Against the Jets as well who are a strong team.
Did anything stand out in particular as looking good. Players, special teams, lines, Wolf ect.

This. He needs someone that will make smart decisions in the offensive zone to keep plays going. That same person also needs to be strong defensively to help breakup plays in the defensive zone. I’m not certain any of the current vet defencemen are the best fit for Parekh. I think he needs a defence partner that has strong offensive instincts but takes fewer risky plays. Weegar and Andersson both tend to be riskier players when it comes pinches and plays at the point. Bahl and Pachal don’t have much offence to their game. Bean and Miromanov are a mess defensively.
The Phaneuf comparison is great - Aucoin and Hamrlik both had some decent offence to their game but played a little more conservative.
You can see similar pairing dynamics with guys like Makar and Toews. Or Hughes and Hronek.
Soloviov might have been a good fit if he had been playing as a regular NHLer last year. The right defenceman might be out there through trade (Bischel maybe?)

Gridin looking NHL ready. Goal and some slick setups. Only a couple mistakes.
Parekh had a tough night, but so did anyone paired with Bean.
Kadri/Klapka looks like the real deal, not just a late season mirage.
Hanley/Weegar are ready.
4th line is no good.

Penalty kill was better. Flames switched from a 1-3 to a diamond this season and you could see they have figured out much better how to cover the middle slot threat as the puck moved around.
Personally I don't like the diamond as much but in the NHL a lot of teams use it because it is better for blocking and disrupting one timers from the flanks and with the shooters you face at that level it makes sense to prioritize that.

Looks like we have one extra players up right now. Who goes down? I would guess Miromanov?
