Just read that Carney is headed to DC this week to meet with Trump, as per CBC. Not sure if it’s a private meeting away from the cameras, or one of Trump’s bulls*** clown show photo ops. But hopefully something good comes out of it.
I get it. Carney is trying to be diplomatic and find a way to get the tariffs dropped, or at least reduced. But man, it just seems like these meetings with Emperor Dips*** are always a colossal waste of time. I’d rather we just ignore him and keep doing what we can to strengthen and find new trade deals with reliable partners and allies.

Can you imagine the outrage is Carney did that and then Trump said, “If Carney had just came and asked, I’d have dropped them”.

Well yea, I get why it needs to be done. And he absolutely has to try. But it just seems like these meetings always go nowhere. Like I said, hopefully something productive comes out of it. I’m doubtful, but we’ll see.
What exactly are you afraid of? Or are you just white-knighting here cause you think everyone is defenceless and fragile?
I am not afraid of much, except my insurance premiums continuing to rise…. I have had vehicles and once a house robbed. It sucks.
No, I’m not defenceless, nor do I think everyone is defenceless, but I have some younger extended family members who take transit regularly. Sometimes later in the evenings. Those people, and people like them are the ones I am concerned for.
I mean, you have to be a real special kind of idiot to think “it doesn’t directly affect me, so it’s not a problem worth solving”.
That’s just dumb.
Maybe if you were concerned about more than just yourself, you would see how crime has affected other members of society.

Yep, but the one time he doesn’t kowtow to Trump, his cohort will tell him he was disrespected by Canada and this will end up in another public spat.

I am not even concerned about myself because there is nothing to be concerned about. Your insurance premiums aren’t going up because of petty crime, and you’re not at any appreciable risk of being assaulted by somebody on public transit no matter what time of day you or your loved ones take it. I don’t like the idea of pouring money into “solving” nothing-burger problems of perception over reality. You shod spend less time doom-scrolling negative social media feeds. The world isn’t as scary as Facebook tells you it is.

It has been tricky to dig into but it sounds like there has been a lot of progress on that front. I found one content creator House of El who is focused on the geopolitical analysis of some of the moves that Carney has taken since the election.
I have found some small stories that support her videos, which makes me more trusting that she isn't just making #### up and thus makes me more excited about what Carney is doing.
Also, she did a video on the Canada submarine RFP that dropped the US as a contender for the Germany/Korean choices (whereas the US assumed they would get that money). The impact to red states is particularly enjoyable to consider.
So while I view Carney meeting Trump as a bit of a waste of time, it does seem to be a necessary evil to buy time while all of these other moves continue in the background.

Perceptions over reality?
Hahahaha.
Perhaps check your facts instead of doom scrolling social media.

You haven’t presented any facts that there is a huge uptick in crime that something needs to be done with right away. All you said was that you feel scared going out at night and your insurance went up. I don’t feel that way going out, and obviously none of the other people who go out after dark. Is this perception of random assaults and crimes actual keeping you from going out? That’s pretty sad if it is.
Maybe you should question why you’re feeding into this doom and gloom.

Maybe he watches Fox News? Or maybe he believes Poilievre's constant stream of lies and misinformation about rampant crime and a broken country? (Conservative playbook)
Speaking of lying politicians, there is a petition in the House of Commons (Petition E-6679) specifically calling for accountability and ethics in government and to stop politicians from lying. It already has over 30,000 signatures and, truly, it should be a unifying petition as everyone (should) want their politicians to be responsible with their words.
Everyone has until November 27th to sign and what is even better is that you can sign it digitally from the comfort of your CP rage chair. Make yourselves heard!
Will be nice for us to finally see an actual budget. Going to be a #### sandwich but it's going to be a long road try to fix this gongshow that's been building for so long.
How much of every dollar are we spending on just interest payments alone now?
Stupefying," “shocking” and “unsustainable” -- those were just some of the words Ottawa’s fiscal watchdog used Thursday to describe his scathing forecast for federal finances ahead of a long-anticipated fall budget.
Interim Parliamentary Budget Officer Jason Jacques published an updated economic and fiscal outlook on Thursday where he projected the federal deficit would balloon to $68.5 billion this year, up from an estimated $51.7 billion last year.
He also expects the federal debt-to-GDP ratio -- previously a major fiscal anchor for Ottawa -- will no longer decline in the coming years.
Based on public statements from federal officials, spending plans announced over recent months and a weakening economy in the U.S. trade war, he said the path for federal finances appears broadly “unsustainable.”
“I think everybody should be concerned,” Jacques told MPs on the government operations and estimates committee.

Former parliamentary budget officer (PBO) Yves Giroux says it’s likely too early to tell whether Canada’s fiscal outlook is as precarious as his successor is warning.
“I would probably, personally, wait until we see what’s in the budget before making such a statement,” Giroux said during a panel discussion airing Sunday on CTV Question Period. “I think, for my part, it’s a bit premature.”
A former parliamentary budget officer says it is "just wrong" to suggest that the federal finances are unsustainable and is publicly disagreeing with the current fiscal watchdog.
Kevin Page — who was Canada's first parliamentary budget officer (PBO) starting in 2008 — told CBC's Power & Politics that he disagrees with the language of the current PBO, Jason Jacques.
"I think the language from the current parliamentary budget officer, Mr. Jason Jacques, is just wrong and he should walk that back, quite frankly," Page told host David Cochrane.
The good thing is that far more seasoned and experienced people who have had that job have basically said the interim PBO is wrong.
