Good question. It cant be 50+1 though right?

It has to be a ‘clear majority’ but the number isn’t specified. People often say 60%. Maybe 50%+1 of registered voters (not actual voters) would be sufficient. If the referendum passes it triggers negotiation with the rest of Canada, not another referendum. I guess that’s where ‘clear majority’ will be debated.

I do not know the answer but separation is such a huge thing that I think it should be more like the recall rules (significantly harder to hit), where you need a % of the voting population, not a % of the votes. Thus, if Alberta has 5M people then you should need 2.5M votes to have anyone take a separation request seriously (or at least 51% of the adults - or maybe even 16+?).
Another thought that keeps creeping into my head: Unlike the province of Quebec that was a separate group of people before the creation of Canada, the federal government of Canada created the province of Alberta by splitting up the Northwest Territories. I think it would be pretty hilarious if the federal government just dissolved the province, much in the same way the UCP has been threatening to dissolve cities/towns if they do not obey the provincial government.

First day of petition collections with brisk tables at the notarization locations.
Still another month to go.

Back in 95 this was a big question. Quebec claimed 50%+1 would do it. Which is dumb. Fundamental changes to anything, from constitutions to articles for corporations to freakin' condo bylaws all require bigger margines, usually 66%.

Brexit vote was 51.89 to leave the EU
That disaster could have been avoided with a higher threshold of votes

Was pleasantly surprised to see the Forever Canada people set up on the way out of Tuscany on Saturday. Made it easy to stop and do a quick signing of the petition.

We were out at the Victoria Park Night Lights festival and my wife and I were able to sign the petition.
Thank you again to all of the volunteers making this happen.

I got my 500th signature this morning. When I started, I thought it’d be great to hit 200. My number 500 was James, a senior who was working in his yard. We shot a photo of us in front of his five-foot Canadian flag. James is a proud Canadian.

That's great. I think I'm at about 70. The timing was bad for me though. I was out of the country in August and September is a super busy time at work, so I haven't been able to do too many events. I'm helping collect the signed forms tonight though.

They all count. Thanks for your work.
I’m retired so have more time than you probably do. I’m door knocking, where I’m meeting lots of separatists near me. I’ve got 130 signatures over three days outside of a local coffee shop near me owned by a friend. I’ve done a driveway pop up and other events, including two football tailgate parties. I’ve encountered separatists but none have been rude or aggressive. I just thank them and move on. It’s been fun and tiring. I’m getting signatures every day — sobetibes three or four and done days 30-50. Ours is a popular movement.

230k with a month to go is pretty awesome. They need to buckle down over the next few weeks, but that's a great start.

Although that's great progress, and they're obviously wanting to give this a little boost for the Thanksgiving weekend... I kind of wish they hadn't said anything. While this will motivate and remind some people, it might inadvertently cause some to take their foot off of the gas a little.
