I think Ward 8 is coming down to Hehr, Schmidt and Wiebe.
I like Hehr a lot- seems like a really centrist approach, has experience, really loves the Street level politics and being out there with the people. I think he knows what it means to be a representative and be collegial. He has baggage, but also is a household name.
Wiebe is okay, but lacks relevant experience and is attached to communities first party. She repeats a lot of those points, which seems inauthentic to me.
Schmidt seems authentic and genuine and aligns with my urbanist preferences. But I think in a lot of ways he reminds me of Walcott, where I'm not sure hes actually going to be responsive to constituent issues who aren't ideologically aligned with him.
I'm torn between Schmidt and Hehr. I wonder if they split a lot of votes and wiebe comes up the center.

Wiebe was a friend through my now ex-wife, and during the last municipal election I would have voted for her had I been in Ward 8. However, the alignment with Communities First and the fact that last time I saw her at her store off 17 Ave, she basically pretended she didn’t know who I was and was just a random customer, yeah, I’m not voting for her.
I met Schmidt while he was canvassing, seemed a good dude, hoping he’s not another Walcott repeat.

100% seems like a good dude with a good heart and good resume. And he's idealistic and we need that.
But Hehr knows the job and he's good at it and he's reasonably progressive. Walcott's issue was that he didn't know what he was signing up for. I think with Kent, you get a guy who knows the job and likes doing it. He loves talking with people. Absolutely loves it.
It's a really hard choice

Didn’t Kent Hehr get tossed out of the federal Liberal party for being a creep and calling a staffer “yummie”?

You're thinking of Kang being thrown out of the federal liberal party for allegations. Also a Calgary MP.
Hehr only had to voluntarily resign from cabinet after some allegations of being handsy that was apparently a well known secret in Alberta politics.

I've crossed paths with Schmidt in volunteer work and I would vote for him if I lived in the Ward. Easy choice.

Hehr's baggage is what's holding me back from voting for him - I agree with Gullfoss that Kent seems to legitimately enjoy the job and know what he's getting into, and that Schmidt seems great but so did Walcott and I wasn't overly impressed with his term.
I'll probably vote Schmidt.

I'm in Ward 9. I watched the debate from last weekend and I think Harrison Clark has my vote.
Still undecided on Mayor and Public School Trustee.

I've known Kent for years and I believe his explanation of these events. The initial complaint was that he called someone "yummy" in an elevator. Kent says he wouldn't ever do that and hasn't called anyone "yummy" ever. I believe that because I know him and in part because I wonder why anyone would say that to anyone. It just makes no sense.
But let's say that you don't believe him, and he did actually say that. That's it? Like, the guy should lose his cabinet post (at the time) and be entirely unelectable based on that? I have a hard time with that. This was in the height of the #metoo era, and if this were a case like Harvey Weinstein or something like that, I'm 100% on board with full prosecution. But to take someone down with that kind of allegation seems to be a different case.

Ya, I am not a fan of the blanket rezoning (well documented here) but I am still likely to vote Gondek. I think with a stronger council around her there is a chance that they deliver more for the people of Calgary.
I haven't ruled out Thiessen but I am nervous about giving any slate/party too much influence.

I really gave Teja the gears when he stopped by our place, and he was straightforward on his answers. He's also the only one that stopped by. He despises Smith, and is okay with blanket rezoning. Someone in the thread above said Ward 6 is a bunch of thinly veiled or not veiled at all conservatives, and Teja. So, Teja gets my vote despite not being an independent candidate. School trustee I think is incredibly important this election. (AVOID Jennifer Steward in Ward 6) The local Facebook group that my wife is part of is full of mothers with kids in school, and Bolger, the incumbent, is by far the most popular.
The TBA plants all say they are independent, but all their graphics are identical. Urban Sprawl sums it up well. Click the below link if you want a good cry/laugh.

Hehr working on his ‘interactions’ after another complaint about rudeness:
https://www.ipolitics.ca/2017/12/12/...aint-rudeness/
After another complaint about his behaviour, Minister for Sports and Persons with Disabilities Kent Hehr said today he is working on “improving his interactions.”
A wife of a disabled veteran told the Chronicle Herald that Hehr, the former minister for veterans affairs, made inappropriate comments in the summer of 2016.
Kim Davis quit her job as a college instructor to care for her husband, who served in Bosnia, was suicidal and suffered from severe PTSD. Davis told the Herald that when she talked to Hehr about her experiences, he told her Veterans Affairs Canada does not have an obligation to her — because it was her choice to marry her husband.
Just last week, Fiona Sampson, a thalidomide survivor, said that Hehr belittled thalidomide survivors at a meeting in October. Hehr said he offered the group an apology.
But when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked about Hehr today, he initially said Hehr also apologized to Davis — when, in fact, Hehr actually denied the allegation, according to reports.
