My advice is do it outside, or if inside then something with a lid - a Whirly Pop is quite common.
Also know that coffee roasting is not a good smell. You kind of go into it half expecting it to be like the smell of freshly ground coffee, but it’s rather something uniquely unpleasant that lingers for some time.
But still, something to try at least once or twice to say you did it and have an appreciation for commercial roasters.

Good to know. I was assuming that there might be some smells that aren't totally like the smell I'm used to for coffee beans, but reading up on it, it seems the off gassing CO2 has some strong volatile compounds that might smell weird and awful that will linger for a few days and/or until the coffee bean is ground.

If it smells nice, then it’s maybe not the coffee roasting, or you have an odd sense of smell. It could be either.

It's definitely the coffee roasting(like, I can see the smoke coming out the stack and I go inside and voila, coffee roasting in front of me) but I do also concede I do have an odd sense of smell.
