What exactly about this pay grid seems unfair relative to other professions or provinces?

Imagine coming out of university at Age 22 and getting a $71,000 salary with the summers off...that seems pretty great.

Wouldn't it be strange if someone with no godly clue what it is you do commented authoritatively on the internet about what your salary should be? You'd probably think that person is a moron.
Anyway, keep thinking!

What do you think a teacher with zero years of experience should earn?

For babysitting our children AND teaching them? In deteriorating conditions and a worsening parenting environment? Way more than Bruce McAllister gets paid.

Still waiting for someone to suggest an alternative salary if $70,000 is unreasonably low.

Why should I? You continually ignore all the good faith debate going on in this thread.

I'm just curious. I think $70,000 is reasonable. If people disagree, what do they think a reasonable salary is for a teacher with an undergrad degree and no experience?
Is that a bad faith question?

That’s what he does in every thread.
A great example of why we need to better-fund education.

How about the CRA just publishes everyone's salary, and then we can have a conversation?
It's so f'ing weird to me that public sector salaries are known, but no one knows what salaries are in the private sector. How can we even have a conversation about it?
What's your field? What's a starting salary there?

It’s a bad faith question because it blatantly ignores the main issue for teachers.
ITS NOT ABOUT THEIR SALARIES.
Salaries that are fair and reasonable are table stakes to even begin a conversation.
This is about classroom conditions, supports for students, and creating a sustainable public education system that lifts all Albertans, not a system that prioritizes the outcomes for the wealthy.
Education is the greatest investment we can make in our provinces future wealth. This whole situation is about getting our public education system back to a place where that is a possible path. Right now the system is on life support.

Sigh. Again most teachers are okay with the salary. I’m tired of explaining the same thing so if you’re going to come in authoritatively like you think you know what you’re talking about, please at least read the earlier posts about classroom supports for students. You clearly didn’t so please stop firebombing as if you have something new to contribute.
The UCP likes to tell people teachers only care about salary, but as you can all see here it seems like the only people who are obsessed with teacher salaries are those against teachers.

I’ll answer your question.
I think $70k with good benefits coming out of school is a reasonable entry salary.
With that said, attrition rates for teachers before they hit five years experience are extremely high.
So let me ask you, GullFoss, what you propose that will improve the system and lead to better retention?
You can’t use increasing salary in your response.

Does anyone have a table or chart showing student-teacher ratios over the past 15 years or so?

So is it possible class sizes are unchanged since 2019?
