This is an immense help when someone finds a lost child and contacts police about it. Speeds up the reunion process significantly.
I'm 41 and I still remember my early childhood phone number and address thanks to my parents.

Ugh...dredges up some bad memories for me.

Many years ago I was volunteering with ~10 year olds and one of the things we did was:

"Write down the names of your parents, your phone number and your home address!"

Out of 20 kids one of them got his dad's name right and another one got his phone number right, none of them knew their address or their mom's actual name. I was stunned. If these kids got lost they were helpless.

Like you, I know my parents' and most of my best friends' phone numbers off by heart...because I had to dial them!

Yeah. Either teach your kids or chip them.

Maybe different, maybe not, but my Dad had issues with my Mom wandering off. We gave them a tile, and she wore it like a necklace. Very useful. Before you joke, as I would, she is now in advanced stages of dementia and is institutionalized.

My four year old knows mom & dad's full names and mom's phone number as well as our home address and what daycare she goes to.

Who's to say if she'd remember it in a stressful emergency type situation, but she can recite it to us at the dinner table easily enough.

You had to pay extra to be able to access the tracking data, the basic shot is just for the government and Amazon.

I hope they find him. Goes without saying that I hope he's alive, but finding him period is going to give some closure. My family was from Coleman before my Dad moved to Calgary, and there's lots of things that could go wrong in the woods in that area.

My great grandfather actually went missing in the Crowsnest and was never found. He decided to go out and pick some berries one day and never returned. Speculation was that there are lots of old mine ventilation shafts in the woods that he could have fallen down (hopefully better marked in the years since, not sure if that's still a possibility). Possibly an animal could have gotten him too but you'd usually find some trace.

Before my Dad passed I remember he got a few random calls from government/RCMP over the years, rare of course but every now and again some remains would be found and they'd ask about identifying factors. I believe they had dental records to compare against but they never determined any remains found were his. Just completely vanished.

Anyways, thought I'd share that story as I always found it interesting and somewhat relevant here. Again, hope they find the little guy safe and sound and no foul play was involved.

I was told it was a bio weapon for population control.

Awkward conversation to have a few years after the fact.

That is truly tragic, and I feel so sorry for the poor family.

Brutal news. Sounds like he had a pretty big family too, lots of young siblings. I can't imagine how difficult this would be for them.

That’s gotta be the worst case scenario here, I feel terrible for the family.

That must be such a difficult conversation and decision for the SAR team to make. I imagine it takes a huge toll on your mental health.
