No, I haven't seen that said anywhere, and I don't know how many of these 3000 would be needed to cover enrolment growth If enrolment growth requires 3000 new teachers anyway, then the promise means no class size benefits.

Whatever way it is written, it is an empty promise. The idea that they are going to find 1000 new hires in addition to all the hires needed to sustain a failing system is a farce.

They will just say oops guess we couldn't find any, shrug and the thinkers of the world like gullfloss will say, "sounds reasonable guys."

From 2022:

Quote:
Budget 2022 provided an overall education funding increase of more than $700 million over the next three years. School divisions anticipated up to 800 more teachers and principals as well as approximately 800 support staff including teacher assistants will be hired this year.
https://globalnews.ca/news/9341474/a...ey-class-size/

This clearly didn't fix the problem. So 1600 educators were hired in one year, and the promise is for 1000 teachers and 500 assistants per year. Some of those in 2022 would have been covering attrition which aren't included in these numbers, but I think from a high level view it's easy to see these additions are not going to make much difference, if any, in class sizes based on this past data.

It'd be nice if journalists could do this type of number crunching for us, because all we have to go on is old news stories. Of course we can't trust anything the govenrment tells us, so we need actual facts.

Two senior Alberta Health Services procurement officials were also briefly directors in a numbered company linked to MHCare, a supplier that has been awarded $$$ in business, The Globe and Mail has found

Corporate filings show that the numbered company, 2464052 Alberta Ltd., was established on Oct. 7, 2022, and listed three directors at incorporation: Mr. Prasad, Mr. Iskiw, and Khalil Mraiche, the business's sole share-holder. MHCare CEO Sam Mraiche's father and son are both named Khalil. His middle name is also Khalil. Mr. Prasad and Mr. Iskiw joined the numbered company during a period in which Mr. Iskiw was about to leave Alberta Health Services' procurement office and Mr. Prasad was preparing to rejoin it.
According to the law firm's report, Mr. Iskiw said in a 2022 conflict-of-interest declaration that he had "personal friendships" with individuals at MH-Care and other organizations. Mr. Iskiw added that he "avoided any and all business-related decisions" involving these relationships. He also said he had disclosed these friendships in 2020, but the records Alberta Health Services supplied to investigators did not include that declaration.

Just take the offer, say you did it for the kids, talk #### about the UPC and live to fight another day. This isn't the hill to die on.
Boy, I wish you worked for me with that attitude.

In the real world it's almost impossible to find an employee that is happy to get inflation on a new 4-year contract after their last contract was less than inflation is very rare.

Especially if you are also increasing their workload (via increasing class sizes)!

And never if you've got an $4 Billion surplus and you're blowing money left-and-right on grifting and subsidizing one of the most profitable industries on earth (O&G), while also creating essentially no new jobs from all that spending.

Not at all - they are just going to reduce the qualification standards, which I believe was in the news last week. Because industry experience is all you need to be a competent teacher in the eyes of this government, or failing that at least having the required religious convictions.

There are 30 000 unlicensed teachers in Quebec classrooms. This is absolutely what you do when you have a teacher shortage.

I did see someone posit that because treaties with First Nations may, or are, technically international treaties this is to help out her seperatist buddies.
I have no idea and would refer to a law knowing person the veracity of that position.
It does seem very sneaky and devious so...par for the ucp course?

What, you think they're going to moonlight as Flight Attendants?

Where do you find 3000 new teachers when some of the ones you have are quitting due to class sizes and the lack of supporting regarding students with special needs? It's a stressfull working enviroment,

How do you build 100 new schools that you promised to build when you put $0 in the budget to build schools?

The answer to both questions is: you don't. The UCP is lying and negotiating in bad faith and then expecting their bootlickers to believe everything they say at face value even when mountains of evidence demonstrate that their actions seldom match up with their words.

Voting results just came out:

Votes to Reject: 38,113 (89.5%)

Votes to Accept: 4,479 (10.5%)

Total Votes: 42,592 (not including abstentions)

There’s still a chance for a deal before next week, but I don’t think it’ll happen. Strike it is.

GullFoss is gonna be baffled at how such a fair deal could be rejected.

I think one thing the union has warned us about, is while we seem to have more public support at the moment, that may start to wane as parents have to maneuver around the inconvenience of their child not going to school.

We’ll see how it goes I guess. Knowing this government, they’re going to go all out on Instagram ads to demonize us.

I voted “no” but I’m worried about my bank account. I don’t think demons do that.
