I'm kind of surprised that the 25 year old defenseman that played in Germany last year is getting such a long look. I figured Cicek was going to be one of the first sent down to the Wranglers.

The issues is that the Flames don't have a lot of snarl on their team. I know that many people want the NHL to move away from violence, but the truth is, teams will target young skilled players if they can with no consequences.

Having a guy like Cicek in the roster helps to stop the bullying.

Yeah, I never heard of him either before camp. I think the split squad against EDM earned him another look. He was one of the only Flames players that was noticable, in a pretty lackluster game by the team.

Same age and similar NHL experience as a guy like Solovyov. No way he makes the team but not shocked he's still up, and he could be a call-up at some point

I mean, if he was a great deterrent and a good enough player he wouldn't have been in Germany last year having not made the Sharks who have a bunch of young players to watch over.

Now, that being said, I really did like his game last time out. So I'm a bit hypocritical I suppose.

Also interesting that Kerins is in still. Would have thought he'd have won a spot given his performance compared to who he's battling, but I feel like there are things the coaching group sees that they aren't thrilled about that we as fans are missing.

I think Weegar, Wolf, Kadri and Backlund have all made the opening night roster. Huberdeau, Coleman and Sharangovich though are most likely headed back to the farm. Does anyone know if they have to clear waivers first?

Gridin is a stud. Stone cold killer. No head case shenanigans with him, he is solid. Not sure if it starts this Oct, but he will have a long NHL career.

This is a chance for Sam to get going against weaker opposition. That’s how I read this.

Huska will roll four lines I bet.

Except for the back-up goalie. The above says to me that was is over. Rightly so.
This is going to be fun! We're getting to 'Last Chance Saloon' time!

What is telling is that Honzek, Kerins, and Morton are getting very long looks - that isn't a bad sign for them, that's a good sign. The players that aren't close are already gone.

It is just so weird how so many fans can't wait to dismiss a 20 year old that the coaches and management obviously are not dismissing.
