I don't think the van will be written off. The Odyssey's rear door is pushed in and I think would need to be replaced. The front of the van is fine as well as the sides. I was close to home when the collision happened, so I was able to drive the van back home. Didn't seem to have any issues.

I have an appointment set for Monday to have the vehicle damage assessed.

If you can afford to buy/keep an S6, chances are there's a 911 in your range. It may not be exactly the gen/spec/color you want, but you can still get something good for non-silly money. People online get all hyped up about the fancy specs/GT cars...but even the basest of base 911's will make you smile.

Or start with a Cayman/Boxster, and see where it goes. Something like a 987 is really hard to beat for value, and will give you pretty much everything but the prestige. My first was a used bare-as-bones base-Cayman, and it was still a great car and by far the best thing I tested in my price range at the time (new or used). I still pine for that car sometimes.

Sure but it needs to be a DD except in the worst of weather (even with proper winter tires). So that means a 4S.
Somewhat risk averse though too, had a warranty still on the S6 when it sold. I know I won’t have that luxury with the vintage of Porsche so will take that into consideration in pricing.

Nothing within 6 hours currently that I can tell, and while I enjoy the hunt, I’ve also been needing a car for a month or so. BMW 850 has been on the radar too, totally different car.

I’m going to push back at needing a 4S for winter driving. I put over 90,000km on 2 Caymans. Drove them both through the winter. As long as the snow was not above the front air dam they got me through everything. Fantastic car in the winters with snow tires on. Neither of them had a thing go wrong on them other than routine maintenance and tires and both held their value well. The cost to run them when you include depreciation was possibly less than my VW golf VR6 and certainly less than my E90 330i.

Risk averse...but looking at a BMW 850!

RWD or AWD...the reality is that most modern sports cars are doable in winter as long as you have decent winter tires. But the question is, just because it's doable, does it make it worth it? I drove mine in winter, and I wouldn't say it was particularly enjoyable....especially since you're always half expecting someone to slide into you at an intersection.

These cars can handle a lot, but personally, I still think the winning formula is Porsche + regular car/winter beater. Apart from the downsides of off-season driving, when you make it your 2nd (or 3rd etc.) car you also don't have to compromise so much on it's Porsche-ness and force it into your routine. Ie, you want a manual...but get a PDK to appease your significant other, or to make rush hour traffic easier. You want RWD, but get AWD for better year round driving. You want a convertible, but don't think it's practical. You want a funky color, but don't want to peacock at work. In the end, you compromise a lot of your dream for daily practicality...which kind of takes the air out of the fun balloon.

Never mind that there's something to be said for keeping the driving experience a little special, which daily-ing a car can erode. Going back and forth from the little sports car to the luxe-barge makes me appreciate both more.

I fully appreciate people wanting to keep their cars pristine, and our gravelly sloppy roads aren't conducive to keeping them that way.

That said, hot take - Calgary is totally doable to winter drive a pretty nice car, as long as you don't ever need to. I don't have a car that deserves to be winter babied (10 year old S4), but I'm a bit of a wiener and want it to last (can't buy manuals in newer models of much) so I rarely drive it on snowy/sloppy roads. I put performance winters on it because there are a TON of dry road days here over the winter where you can still have fun blasting corners. Sure there's a few days I take the other car to hockey or whatever, but you can still use it a lot. My father in law has a 911 Targa (so an actual nice car) and does basically the same thing. Just get a good 3M job and you're good to go.

I don't know... I've been there and IMO if you can only have one, I'd rather drive a C4S 365 days a year than a GT3RS 100 days a year...

I'm not sure I'd even want a GT3RS...on our roads, you'd probably need new teeth after every season.

C2S + Miata + Toyota truck/suv = my ideal 3-car garage lineup. And a LC500 if there's room.

I don't have a lot of seat time in the newer versions, but I am fortunate enough to have logged thousands of kms in a 997.2 RS (it makes me cry to think I could've kept the car all these years and tripled or even 4x'd my money )

I found the ride to be perfectly fine for daily, city driving. Actually, from what I remember, the ride seemed more supple than PASM in sport mode in a 'normal' 997.

Took my 2022 Mercedes in for B service last week at lone star, looked on garage floor this morning it looks like there is a transmission fluid leak. Prior to B service there were zero issues with vehicle. Pretty unimpressed, find out tomorrow if they say it's not their fault.

Did they do a multi point inspection recently and indicate that they checked all fluid levels and condition? If yes and it indicates it's good, then that would point to not checking fluids or that fluids were checked and levels were good. If you were previously leaking transmission fluid, that would mean your fluid would be low quickly and that would have been caught with the check at the dealer.

Sometimes when things don't add up, you got to investigate and catch them in a lie. My brother's Acura had a steering column issue he wanted looked at during warranty period. Nothing to find they said but wanted to charge for some adjustment to some other steering issue. What are you adjusting, a warrantied item that isn't an issue or not? Like the Dr's who preform surgeries on wrong parts that are fine. "We went ahead and did ACL surgery on the left leg" "Ahhh I torn the right knee Dr"

I've used autopartsway.ca a bunch before when they have what I need, as their prices are good, and if you pick the free 15 day shipping it usually comes same day because they have a massive Calgary warehouse.

I just ordered a starter, and it auto-added $7 shipping insurance in a very sneaky way, and then asked for a TIP! At least the default selection was $0, but it feels like private equity took them over or something.

At least my starter still is arriving same day... haha. I can't bring myself to boycott that convenience from a non-Amazon seller.

They better have, B service is $750, I had them flush the diff and brake systems so I suspect they did not put things back properly and now there is a leak of what looks like diff fluid but I'm not much of a mechanic, just pretty sure it's not oil.

If you aren't sure what it is, you can google how to identify various fluids.
