That's a bummer. The league is better off when players like Barkov are in the lineup. Dude is a stud.

But how hilarious would it be for the Panthers to use this cap space to trade for Mcdavid at the deadline and then have Barkov come back for the playoffs.

As I'm understanding it, they can only get 4m in cap relief if Barkov returns.

I legit wonder if Kadri becomes a target for them? I can't see anyone else being available that have a cup pedigree.

Yeah the new LTIR rule is they can only get Barkov's full cap hit as relief if they declare him out for BOTH regular season and playoffs and he would be ineligible to play in the regular season or playoffs.

If they want him available for playoffs or some part of the regular season, they will only get $3.8 million in LTIR relief.

Florida's top 9 forwards without Barkov and Tkachuk

Reinhart, Bennett, Verhaeghe, Marchand, Lundell, Rodrigues, Luostarinen, Boqvist, Samoskevich

Tkachuk returns in January. They'll be fine

It’s crazy what these guys go through and then little plays like this will happen and be season enders.

The problem with Kadri is he has 3 years left on his contract after this season. He could work as a one-year replacement, but then they'd need to do something with him for next season and beyond.

They're definitely deep as they come. But losing their #1 center and top shutdown guy is gonna prevent a threepeat barring a miracle leap by Bennett or Lundell.

Wait...they're gonna get Crosby aren't they...

How long until entitled Oiler fans start bragging about how there is no roadblock for them this year?

That is a crazy freak accident on a route drill. The NHL is worse off without Barkov in the lineup he's such a beauty.

I love the way (most) Scandanavian players play the game. And he's among the best.

That really sucks. Barkov is such a good player. Maybe the most underrated player in the league, because while he's well known he's never mentioned in the same breath as McDavid, Mackinnon, etc, despite being maybe a better all around player.

It could actually be done, if Calgary ate 50%.

I really like Gracyn Sawchyn as a future 3C with captain potential, but Florida doesn't have anyone else that is interesting to Calgary. Their 26 and 27 first rounders are gone.

They just don't have the capital.

It looked to me like his knee just 'broke' right before he got to that dman.

The other problem is that Kadri is more like Bennett than Barkov.

Well. No one they'd part with, anyway (I'm sure the Flames would be interested in Lundell lol).

What about Samoskevich? The Panthers kind of need him for cheap effective depth, though.

I think Barkov is definitely a better all around player than both those guys. Defensively, it's not even close and people sometimes forget the silky hands that Barkov has because in game, he'll choose to make the guaranteed safe play rather than the more risky, highlight reel worthy play. He brings it out 5 or 6 times a season though and it's always some WTF skilled move/play by him.
