I would guess Cooley gets the next start before they decide on the backup.

The Flames have 4 more pre season games. You'd have to imagine that a handful of guys from group B get another look.

Really hope they rip the bandaid off on some of those defensemen choices.

14 and 7 means one forward and one d getting cut from group A
13 and 8 would be two f no d
Imo Honzek down, kirkland waivers, and kerins stays up.
But I really wouldn't mind Kuznetsov and Miro/Bean switching groups

Miromanov looked the worst of the D-men last night.

Right now I would keep 8 D: Rasmus, Bahl, Pachal, Weegar, Hanley, Parekh, Bean, Kuz.
That means Miro, Soloyov and Poirier get waived.

He wasn't playing lights out, but he looked better than Bean, Brzustewicz, and Poirier. Didn't notice much of Morin, or Hanley.
---
It seems Kirkland, Kerins, and Honzek are fighting for the last 1-2 spots, with Morton on the outside looking in based on the groupings.
The D group split makes sense, but I really wish to see another prospect aside from Parekh forces his way into the lineup.

Honzek can go down if it's a numbers game. I'd hate to see them lose Morton on waivers.

I think for guys like Honzek, Brz, etc there is little downside to starting the year on the farm. We've seen several examples of players coming back up and sticking.
The key is within the young players that require waivers, who do you take the risk with. I'm fine losing someone like Soloyov and Poirier, but less so Kuznetzov
Kerins is tricky. I can see a team like Chicago or SJ taking a shot on him, and it's good that he's creating a tough decision. That's what he needed to do.
I would try to find a way to keep Kerins and Kuz.
The back-up job battle I think is over. Cooley will go down.

I've never actually had much of an opinion of him before, but I watched him more closely last night than I ever had. Your leap to me being biased seems a bit... biased.

Tough spot. Huska is ‘give me players to help us win now’ as he should be but some of the waiver guys probably have more potential than a Bean or Hanley.
Maybe a team values some of our waiver guys and worries some team ahead of them in the cue will get the player first, enabling a trade. Unlikely, but I hope so.

Like most of our young guys, looks like he needs more time in the AHL hothouse.

I would like both Parekh and Brz to make the team,
I know two rookie D on the same lineup sounds like trouble... but on a team that struggles to score, I see more value in two rookie offensive guys than a "vet that doesn't make mistakes, but also doesn't do anything to help us win."

Taking a while to get to 5000

Miromanov's holding penalty was a thing of beauty.
He may not have been the worst last night (Poirier, oof) but my god is he awful.

Again little downside to Brz going down and then coming back up when Rasmus is traded.
Also some of these vets are more than "don't make mistake". You need guys that can defend at the NHL level consistently. Both Parekh and Brz have some work to do in that area.
