Though Noah Hawley is most reverent towards the first two films — particularly Alien, where it takes a while for Kane to die — he definitely falls in with the later movies on the timeline question. Arthur got attacked by a face-hugger at the end of last week’s episode. “Emergence” covers what seems like only a couple of hours in the aftermath of Isaac’s death, yet Arthur is back on his feet by the episode’s midway point, and his chest has been split open by a baby Xeno by the end. With the first season almost over, Hawley has no interest in dilly-dallying on a biological process that many in the audience have seen play out many times before.

Chestbursters come out when the writer tells them to come out.

A xenomorph in broad daylight outdoors is a bit jarring to me, just not as scary as underground in the dark.

Leaping out of the trees onto those soldiers was downright frightening.

I think the biggest new plot twist in the series for me is that there would be prior knowledge of being able to command the xenos (Wendy). A major plot hole in the series for me was it seemed so stupid to bring in fast multiplying, host killing, uncontrollable Aliens. And it failed miserably everytime.
Now that we know at the first contact there was a shown way of being able to command them and actually weaponize them as was always the presumed reason for WT's motives makes a major previous sticking point for me go away.

Hmmm... Still digesting. Not really sure how I feel about super powered Wendy. If she can just control all technology and xenos it kind of makes her way overpowered. The writers really weren't very creative here.
I also really think they missed a good opportunity to play up the horror elements with escaped xenos and other aliens.
Honestly, don't really think they stuck the landing, just kind of wrote away the whole series with Wendy using super powers to control everything.

That was terrible. Did the Star Wars guys write this?
"Lets make rando girl superpowered!"
And then what?
"No. Thats it. Plus closeups of her mouth while she does weird clicking noises!!! Now thats a show! Also...nobody knows how to close doors. You open them up to the aliens and robots that are trying to kill you and then just never close them!"

I liked the close ups of her mouth!...
I thought that was awesome! What is up with Wendy, is it because she is the oldest hybrid? The Xeno got some great stalking scenes, the best was when it cornered Boy Kavalier because he then promptly got kicked in the face. There was a thematic payoff in the brawl between Morrow and Kirsh. Cyborg vs Synth ending in a pyrric victory, how cares who is better when your both viewed as non persons.
What I didn't like is the eye being able to reanimate a corpse. Sure it's reasonably fresh and maybe it will only work for a couple hours, but we haven't been shown that limit yet.

Agree with all of this. Overall I enjoyed this show quite a bit and I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with it for season 2.

hmmm it was kind of a let down for this amazing series but i guess nothing can top Episode 5. Weird the last 2 episodes were the shortest in run time at 45 mins each.
Sounds like we are in for another 2 seasons before Hawley returns to Fargo. Can't wait!

I do believe you are correct, it also ditched the cat ASAP. I still don't like the reanimation if it lasts more than a couple hours.

Upon reflection, it's a disappointing (albeit good looking) show. I'll list the critiques, but I do LIKE the show, I just feel the potential is being wasted.
Sort of amazing they could reach the heights of Episode 5 on the ship and so thoroughly capture the "Alien" vibe...
...and then just piss it away so poorly by the end of Episode 8.
The Eyeball Midge is the best character in the show. But I think it's going to wind up like a character from "Lost". Tons of potential, ominous and scary when introduced, and then never actually does anything. Like, couldn't even embed itself in the little weakling medic guy. Because it wouldn't have been plot convenient.
The aliens are just a device for Wendy, and act utterly without independence. It's not "Alien: Earth" it's "Adventures of Wendy". They do what she says, so aren't a threat except to "generic guy guys".
The only argument that Kid Irritating is a genius is his claim that he built a daddy robot at the age of 6 and assembled the team who made the hybrid bodies. Every decision we've seen him make on the show was that of a moron, and (again) done purely in order to advance the plot. A cybernetics genius doesn't put a failsafe into his prototype superhuman hybrids to be unable to harm him?
As others have said - Hybrids only have superstrength when it's convenient.
And of course, at the end, everyone gets to live, because the writers haven't committed to a clear plotline for season 2 or 3 and need them all alive just-in-case.
Hope I'm wrong. Will definitely tune in for next season.
Maybe re-assemble the conditions that created Episode 5 and try that?
Except all those folks but Morrow are now dead. Oops.
(I did think Kirsh and Morrow were probably the most interesting characters. I did love that onscreen chemistry between them. Kirsh remaining sardonic after his "injury" was great. "Where were you 10 min ago?")

Reflected a bit more. Still really bothered by how they made Wendy into Neo. Really lazy way to wrap things up. They also blew a ton of potential to have some really crazy horror type mayhem instead.
I'm hoping Wendy's control over the xeno's is temporary. Similar to how a chimp can be trained, but once it reaches a certain age it will try to assert dominance and kill its captors. The xenos she is controlling are young and had exposure to her at a young age, so may identify her as their mother.
What I'm really hoping for is that they write out Wendy's super powers to make the show less lame and more about the actual Aliens. I like a lot of the exploration of themes of what is humanity in the context of andriods and cyborgs, but super Wendy is lame.
