Its preseason with a lineup that has never played together and most of them wont be in the NHL. They also travelled today.
goalie played well

I'm pretty sure he got sent down to the ECHL around that time, and I'm also not trying to dump on Honzek. I just need Honzek to start creating more of his own offense before I jump on his bandwagon.

Kerins, Honzek, Zary and Prosvetov were the best players for the Flames tonight. I was a bit disappointed in most of the D tonight.

Hunt was good too, I know that probably won't be a popular opinion but he is always good in these tweener games.

I expect it’s not a popular opinion because it is preseason and not a lot of people are watching
I’d be surprised to see anyone feeling strongly otherwise

I hope Farabee comes into games with as much jump as he did tonight, if his production doesn’t improve at least he can bring some bottom 6 hustle.

I mean people freak out when Hunt gets called up, people would freak if he made the team even if he earned it
Guy was leading the Wranglers in scoring and posters were complaining about the Flames calling up another plugger ect.

Half way thru camp, from Huska, it sounds like Sam Morton is an early favorite to make the team

Prosvetov has been our best player in the two games he's played. Very encouraging.

He's had good moments and bad moments. But I would have liked to see a lot more from a 1st round pick who is supposed to be battling for a roster spot as well.
Kerins has been very impressive. Honzek has been just OK.
And someone like Dryden Hunt, we already know what he is.
I would personally start the year with Kerins, Bru and Parekh on the Flames main roster.

I’m not the biggest Honzek fan, but you can see his skillset. Big guy, moves well, smart, long reach, etc. but he can’t seem to put it all together. Some shifts he looks like a surefire NHLer and some shifts he just doesn’t seem to have it. My hope is that he can just stay healthy for a full season honestly

For me I think Honzek struggles when he's expected to carry the lines offensive production/creativity. He's much better suited for an in deep/setup and execute system with some offensively minded linemates.
Every time he's on an energy line with no real playmaker I feel he looks lost outside of his flashes of individual skill. It's a shame really, I did expect more from him this year but he's looked pretty pedestrian so far.
With only 1-2 spots maximum up for grabs I don't see him taking a spot out of camp this year unfortunately.

Honzek is 20. I'd pump the brakes on writing him off already. The guys you seem to be comparing him to are sometimes 2 to 5 years older than him.
Let's not forget he was a late round first round pick not like a top ten guy.
I'm not saying he is always going to be good but I'm just saying casting judgment on a guy that age is very premature.

Not a great game to watch, but it may be a good game for the coaches to evaluate. For me, it was very noticeable the difference between the NHL regulars and those who were not. Kerins, Hunt, and Morton looked closer to the NHL'ers than the rest of the group. Prosvetov is winning the back up battle for sure.

Draft Pick

Does anyone have the possession/advanced stats for the game last night?
I hope that the metrics are backing-up what it seems most us are seeing.
The Flames-thing here will be to keep-up Bean and Kirkland and lose Kuznetsov, Kerins and/or Solo on waivers. But maybe the metrics will help.
Honzek - the guy needs confidence. Let him go the A and get a full year in, figure out how to dominate - I think he has all the tools.
