Insurance is not a scam, which you’d know if you ever needed it. Especially life and health. Government should not be involved except as a regulator.

I am not sure how their payouts differ from Alberta insurers, but the negotiation process doesn’t gain you much over an initial offer.

Their entire business model is "give us money for just in case", and when the just in case happens it's to do absolutely everything within their capacity to not pay out.
It's not a scam, but it is insidious. Expanded government involvement will not make it less so.

So you believe you should pay in twice as much as you need to to support claims so that shareholders can receive dividends off you?

Don’t worry dear consumer it's private business operating for profit that has your best interests at heart. There's no way anyone else could do it better or cheaper, think of the poor starving shareholders that wouldn't collect their portion of the over 90 billion dollars in profits the industry makes. You don’t want that on your conscience do you? Of course not.

It's no fault insurance. You get a payout, but it's not the full value of the vehicle that was written off. Here, we'd get full value unless there was some contributory factor.
My friend's situation was that she was at a full stop, and a distracted driver hit her vehicle. She received a payout of a portion (not the full) FMV of her vehicle and so did the other person. However, salt in wounds, the FMV established was also less than actual FMV on the market (crazy high used vehicle costs at the time) and even blue book values, and ICBC said they didn't give a F.
My friend was very angry that she was not at fault and would not be made whole by insurance.
My friend was also angry that the person who was at fault was getting paid a portion of the cost to replace their 3rd or 4th vehicle they'd totaled in less than 10 years of driving. How my friend knew this, I don't fully remember. But a portion of it came from ICBC and we don't think she was supposed to get access to that info.

I don’t really know how that differs from here though. Maybe there is no gap insurance in BC for new cars? Is that your friend’s situation?
We had our car written off. We couldn’t replace our 15 year old car for what TD gave us as an offer or even after we found comparables, of which only specific ones were allowed to be used, it only bumped up our payout by about $1k or something.
Do you think that our scenario we would have made us worse off if we were insured in BC?

I guess you could say that of any company. I take it you only invest in government bonds?

WestJet's implementation of 2FA for their App RGMG. Email is the only option (no SMS or FaceID options) so it adds a bit of time to open your email and retrieve / enter the code.
We're not talking forever here, but seems to have been something they implemented half-baked. Especially for the tech strugglers who do this at the last possible minute in line.

These are the same people who get a foot and a half inside the door of the store, and then immediately stop to figure out their life.

Everyplace that does 2FA should have multiple options. The ones that offer text only are just as bad. And messaging Apps (like WhatsApp) should also be an option as they work internationally where you may not necessarily have phone access. Matter of fact now that we're grinding gears I wish more North American companies offered WhatsApp as a communication option rather than text messaging. I was thoroughly impressed KLM did so, it made things so much simpler when travelling.

Also the etiquette thing of letting people exit the elevator before entering. Amazing how many people don't understand this.

I for one am dreading the implementation of 3 factor ID.

Yes. At least that's what my friend explained to me.
Not being able to find a replacement isn't different between the two provinces. Imagine the same situation but probably a 30-50% payout reduction and no negotiation for that extra $1K. You're even less likely to afford a suitable replacement.

Everything should be blood-based. You want to unlock your car? Small needle. Log into Facebook? That'll be a needle. Withdraw funds? Oh you bet that'll be a needle.
Going to see a movie and need to pay? No pin, no Tap, just a little blood.
Just needles everywhere.
