Sorry, bad quality pic. That's actually a deep green and gold dial. I'll have to take a better quality and better lighting Pic.

After humming and hawing for a few months, I finally made a decision to purchase the Seika SSA463 from Chrono24. Brand new, papers, for $500CAD+shipping. I stopped over in Japan a few weeks ago and barely had enough time to think but I really wanted the newest one (Tokyo Zen Garden which had a bronze/red tinge and looked amazing in person), but I didn't decide in time as my flight was leaving. It was a good value at about $650 in the airport. It's the second pic below.

I was looking for a grey market Longines, and certainly Jomashop has them, but after my vacation I decided not to spend too much money on this, so hopefully the Seiko will do.

Thanks. I honestly bought it because I loved the face. It’s a bit thick and isnt as accurate at the swiss options but it was relatively cheap. Having said that, the other one was juat announced and they had it and it looked beautiful in person. Though harder to read.

Dude I am sorry I just saw this post.

I am waiting on confirmation from the Unit that the purchase is going through

If your offer still stands I'd love to see the watch before I buy it.

Accuracy wise, you should be looking at a few seconds a day, which isn't too concerning. A few minutes a day likely means the watch needs servicing.

The Presage series are really solid. You shouldn't have accuracy concerns for a while.

EDIT: Ah dang it, I realized I completely forgot to do additional pics for the watches I swapped straps on. I'll have to do this when I get a chance.

What do you guys think about the Tag Heuer Aquaracer? I always thought my dream watch was the blue-face Seamaster, but this Tag is growing on me a lot. It's cheaper too.

Spoiler!

The Aquaracer to me frequently feels like a cross between a Rolex GMT and Omega Seamaster. I've looked at them a few times, but it always feels like it's more of a dress watch with an active design vs something I'd actually beat up in the outdoors as a daily driver.

I understand why you're gravitating to it. Personally, After giving it some time and consideration, I personally like the Seamaster more than the Aquaracer.

Just to confuse you slightly. Have you looked at the Grand Seiko Sport Collection?

More like a cross between the Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster, but yeah, same dive watch aesthetic. A friend has one; decent quality watch and typically more affordable than either of its two aforementioned contemporaries.

The helium release valve is kinda the one thing I don't like about the Seamaster. I ain't going to be diving, so I don't need it, and the extra knob is not a pleasing aesthetic IMO.

If the Seamaster is the dream watch, personally I would be patient and save up for the dream watch. Yeah you save a little money with the TAG, but I found it's hard to scratch an itch with a compromise.

There's plenty of Seamasters that do not have that extra crown... why are you looking specifically at that model of Seamaster?

I thought all the Seamasters had the helium valve release. Interesting.

I just wanted the blue-face Seamaster with steel bracelet. I fell in love with it years ago, then came across that Tag in a boutique one day and was like WOW. I'm actually undecided now which one I think is prettier.

I think I'm still leaning toward the Seamaster maybe because I'm shallow and I think it's more prestigious? Ahhh watches amirite

Any non-'Professional'-rated Seamaster won't. If it's depth-rated to 1000ft / 300m or more, it'll have the Helium escape valve, so that's your Seamaster Professionals and Planet Oceans. But the Seamaster Aqua Terra (which I have) is only depth-rated to 500ft / 150m, and those do not have the He escape valve at the 10 o'clock position.

Completely a side note, but Blue Jays manager John Schneider's watch caught my eye. He has thick wrists, so it suits him but upon a google search to find out what it is, it's an Oris Aquis Pro. The amazing thing is it's rated at 4000M(!) water resistance. I had no idea such things were possible. Comes with a price obviously.

Ugh... ain't that the truth.

This is also reminding me of my teenage years. Before I knew watches, the quartz Seamaster caught my eye. Back then you could get one for <$1000 and it was double for the automatic. I legit felt the quartz was too big of a compromise from automatic (even though I knew nothing), so decided against blowing nearly all of my life savings on a watch. I spent $150 on some random other automatic watch instead, which I wore for a few years before moving on.

20+ years later, I'm still thinking about that Seamaster, quartz be damned.

Oris is a MLB sponsor and a bunch of managers wear various Oris watches.

Boone from the (may their defense collapse down the stretch) Yankees does for sure.

It's jewelry. Pure logic doesn't apply. As mentioned, for a grail, compromises rarely work out.

You should try and see if you can try on the Tag and/or Seamaster. Aura is a real thing.

I've honestly been tempted in buying a used beat up automatic Seamaster without box/papers for cheap. That way I can finally satisfy a 20 year ish itch from not buying a quartz Seamaster with basically my life savings. If I really bond with it, even in such a state, I'll consider a much higher quality one as a midlife crisis watch. Seems like a better use of money than something like Hamilton, Mido or Yema watches that tempt me that I'd probably move on quickly from.
