No option to put it into another cabinet; that would require a different fan. I almost went that route but was talked out of it.
All the walls are already painted (some need a few touch ups due to dings when installing the cabinets) but the walls in the kitchen will eventually have backsplash tile when I get around to doing it, though obviously not all the way up to the ceiling.
Here's one where the backsplash tile stops at the bottom of the hood fan, there are also a lot where the tile goes to the top of the cabinets.
EDIT: Actually, here is an interesting idea where the cornice moulding for the top of the cabinets extends across and links in with the top of the hood fan. My cornice is very plain... I might go this route.

Ah good. I assumed because the sample pic didn't have backsplash. If you're going with backsplash, I'd say +1 vote for that decision.
The Cornice molding option instead of nothing above the vent certainly seems like it's worth considering. The sample pic of stainless steel on darkish grey is bugging me... though I assume you wouldn't do that, lol.
At a cursory glance, there also seemed to be options where instead of leaving the fan in colors to match the stove, it is painted/additional trim added to the edge of the fan to make it look like it's own thing or to match the cabinets a little more. But these pics range from not bad, not sure if right situation to downright brutally bad.
I think it may make sense to poke into 1 or 2 more ideas and then go with the one that instinctively seems good vs going down too far of a rabbit hole of some seriously varied hood fan decisions that others have made.

No, definitely not steel on grey... I'm probably doing something like a white subway tile. Simple and as easy as possible to install are the key here.

I am enjoying CHL’s journey from cabin conception to nearly complete, but maybe mods could move all the posts to its own thread, like Fuzz’s garage build, so it isn’t as disjointed.

No, that cabinet (actually just a cover panel over the dishwasher) isn't a different shade, it just doesn't have the protective plastic taken off it yet (same with the plastic covering on the fridge, the dent is actually smaller than it looks once you get that off).
Here's an example of one that goes past the cabinets to the ceiling.

Definitely go with this option. Much nicer.

I think this option works because of the lower / steeper angled ceiling, and also contains some vertical elements in decorative vases etc. Your ceiling has a lot more open space, which needs to be visually balanced somehow if you go full chimney.

Wicker baskets in the shape of bicycles with fake vines along the tops of the cabinets.

Anyone have any experience getting the main sewer line to their house replaced by trenchless means? Anyone know if it’s cost comparable to digging the trench? I’m going to get some quotes done either way, but curious if anyone has any stories or experience with this.

Seems drastic for a hood fan venting question but ok?

Does anybody have their finger on new fence costs these days?
I have 1 quote that works out to about $625 per 8' panel on a 6' ht fence with 1 gate.

I have researched the pros and cons and am considering upgrading my house by replacing all the windows with triple pane. I would appreciate any help you can give me regarding the best company to use. Also, I'm wondering if the governments (provincial and federal) are offering any financial incentives, other than interest free loans.

As far as I know, most window companies contract out the install. You might get one bill, but the company might be hiring external teams.
I had a chat with a guy that does a lot of exterior soft metal work and roofing work. He was there for unrelated work but struck up a conversation about how impressed by the metal work (cladding?) he was.
Lux was who I used. I don't know the behind the scenes workings, but it seems like Lux isn't the cheapest, but they take the premium to try to make sure to get good contractors.
I've heard mixed reviews on the work done by other windows companies. Most stories seems like things are fine, but when they are not, it seems like it's nightmare scenarios.
Financial incentives wise, I don't think there are any more.

First of all, yes, in that photo it's hung a bit too low, and it's going to get moved up 4 or 5 inches so that there's more room between it and the stove.
As should be obvious from the photo, it's vented through the wall, but the actual chimney extension obviously is intended to make it look like it's going up to the ceiling. I can just stop it at the top of the cabinets like this one but it looks weird to me, like a vent to nowhere:
The issue is that the ceiling is so high that a chimney extension (which I have) will only make it about 3/4 of the way up, so there will be about a foot or so of space. I still have some material from the ceiling so I was thinking about just having the finishing carpenter make a box from that material and then having that join up with the ceiling to make it look like it vents up that way.
Thoughts?

I think you need to run it to the roof. It will be more dramatic and way less 'odd'. I was thinking it was on the same wall as the sample pics, but with where it is, it is a lot shorter run and will also add a dramatic element to that wall which will look good.
You should have lots of room for your "Live. Laugh. Love." signs.
The very short run looks odd, and you may as well have an under-cabinet vent at that point.
I like the idea of a backsplash to the bottom of the vent and then painting above it. Does the hood go all the way to the cabinets? If so, the backsplash above would, in my opinion, look quite odd. Are you going to add another colour above or is what is shown final? Both samples you show look good, but the second one has a different colour, so it 'pops better. Looking at the first sample, the tile above the vent line makes it look 'busy' imo.
I assume you know that the vent hood height is a code issue? Don't know what it is, but our old house was too low.
The dent in the fridge would give me great satisfaction "50% off mother####ers! I won that one!!"
Sure is coming together nicely.
