Bahl could be the perfect long term partner for him. Hurtig is my darkhorse for that role

IMO Brent Krahn would be the perfect goalie to replace Hrudy.

Yes, I think players of his calibre make the adjustments they need to make with good development practices compared to players who get told to oversimplify. You need to fail at something 1000 times to know the thresholds between success and failure

There's a lot of distance between "letting him doing whatever he wants" and "telling him to oversimplify".

No kidding. He has zero years experience in pro. He needs coaching (and time). And I think he will be great.

My point is that players of his calibre should be allowed to follow their instinct and grow their decision-making through experience and video analysis rather than, as the post I was responding to, being told to simplify just because fans think they are trying to do too much.

Parekh is going to make mistakes, we are going to have to learn to accept it. He is young and he is learning, there will be plenty of amazing plays and plenty of mistakes this year.
Just be happy we have a player of his talent. There is no pressure to win right now. You let him learn.

I truly think Parekh is very similar to Quinn Hughes. Known for his offensive role, but through time becomes a two-way stud. He will learn how to play defense at a high level, otherwise, he won’t be seeing more than 21-22 minutes. The best two way D can log 25-27 mins a night.

Learning how to apply your skill set within a team structure is a huge % of becoming an NHL player.
I think fans worry to much about players being dummied down.
For Parekh it's when to join the rush based on the opposition depth.
When to pinch based on F3 coverage up high.
(and obviously defensive coverage and responsibility hand offs in his own zone)
It doesn't mean when he gets the puck that he's told you can only do this or that. It just means you have to pick your spots based on the game unfolding.
An elite player that can't plug into a team system really isn't an elite player.

Parekh is already starting to polarize some people here. Interesting! For anyone that thought that Parekh would simply replace Andersson defensively given Andersson's -38 rating last season, isn't giving Andersson enough respect, nor are they giving the position enough respect.
Stop expecting Parekh to be a dominating presence defensively. Not going to happen this season, and probably for the next couple after that too. However, I am betting that this coaching staff - as well as the players and the culture that is on this team - will help him become strong defensively. He will end up on the Hughes/Makar side of the spectrum rather than the Karlsson/Bouchard side of the spectrum. However, he is 19, and was not a defensive stalwart in junior, so expecting him to come in be that in the world's best league against bigger, stronger, faster and more experienced players is outrageous, basically.
He is going to make mistakes. Big ones, in fact. That's ok. The kid is young, and he will learn. Calgary has the right culture on this team to ensure that Parekh becomes good defensively over time.
As for worrying about the Flames wrecking him and turning him into Regehr-lite for some inexplicable reason, stop. Huska has already said on numerous occasions that Parekh will be playing his game. Conroy has stated a bunch of times too that they do not want to change Parekh's game. Having him improve defensively will only help his offensive game - just look at both Makar and Hughes. Ray Edwards worked with Parekh all season long this past season on exactly this.
Let's not freak out WHEN Parekh makes a blunder. Let's not freak out either when Huska and the coaching staff reel him in a little at times either. This is a cornerstone piece that needs to develop in one of the most difficult positions to play, with an enormous amount of pressure. Let's just be patient. I bet we won't have another Phaneuf here - someone who didn't care much about the defensive side of the puck as long as he was scoring goals and making big hits. Parekh will end up being a much more well-rounded defencemen who will continue to be elite offensively. Let's just watch and enjoy his development, and not freak out when he makes a huge blunder.

Being in Montreal, his arrival is giving me some serious PK Subban vibes in terms of the discussion amongst the fan base. I can see that some folks don't like players that don't fit within a certain mold.
