If any body needs banning from the Olympics it’s the IOC.

Should Canada get banned for how Hockey Canada handled the sexual assault issue? Should the US be banned for whatever it chooses to do internationally? It’s hockey, you know. It’s only game. Why you hef to be mad?

If they banned countries for their skeletons you probably wouldn’t have any in the competition

Unless the asterisk note is "*#### Putin", an asterisk is a flat out ludicrous idea. Anyone wanting context beyond the medal results is welcome to open a web browser all on their own.

Geo politics aside, I am glad Russia will be in the Olympics. It's not best on best if they're not in the mix. If Canada is to win gold I want them to beat the Russians too. Leave no astrixs on the history books.

The asterisk is only metaphorical- I wasn’t suggesting using an ACTUAL asterisk.

Ukrainians are being killed, raped and tortured, and their land being stolen, and you guys are worried about an asterisk around the champion's medal???
Ban them completely from this and any other international events until they withdraw their troops.

IOC is allowing them, but is the IIHF ban still in effect? I don't think this necessarily means they'll be in the hockey competition.

Some things matter more than sport. Including the life and liberty of 36 million Ukranians, all of whom are in danger every day because the Russian strategy in the war is primarily to target civilians and civilian infrastructure. I mean, they were bombing theatres where civilians were sheltering. Tens of thousands of Ukranian children have been abducted to be educated as Russian citizens. Russian troops have been documented shooting unarmed civilians at point blank range without provocation. Russia needs to be isolated internationally until its government recognizes that it will lose its international status if it continues its unprovoked aggression, imperialism, and war crimes.

Does banning Russia from the games solve that issue?
If Russia is competing, perhaps Russian citizens will watch the games and get to see what the rest of the world is actually about. Maybe they'll see that there good people on the other side who are actually concerned with the well being of Ukrainians and aren't obsessed with some kind of imperialist expansion into Russia, as the Russian propaganda is leading them to believe.
Sport is a pretty unique way to expose warring people to each other and open up bridges of communication.

No, they won't.
But if they are banned from all sporting events, then maybe their citizens will realize that what their government is doing is evil and they will attempt to change said government. It happened in 1917 and 1991 and it can happen again.

The Russian mentality is very much about turning things around and depicted them as being the ones being picked on. Banning them from sports plays into that.

I think it sends a better message when Russian citizens see that the rest of the world is competing without Russian athletes. Ban them!!

Considering the Olympics have historically been successfully leveraged as a significant propaganda event for the worst regimes in history, it makes little sense to give them a much easier avenue to promote propaganda beyond the Russian people in addition to at-home propaganda.

The Russian people have no say in the matter. They are simply fed whatever propaganda the government sees fit. The Nazis used the 1396 Olympics as a propaganda tool, and Russia used the Sochi and Beijing Olympics in a similar light. Putin is an extreme egotist, so the only way to stop him is to show him that he is not building a new, greater Russian empire, but he is causing his country to suffer a loss of prestige.
