Flames scouted and liked Eric a lot, I guess they saw enough of Theo to grab him when Eric was taken.

Calgary has really beefed up it's scouting and development group under Conroy. It dwarfs Edmonton's department which is funny because I remember the narrative after the 24 finals loss was that Katz is the best owner in the league who will spare no expense. I think that got pushed out there because the oilers had a travel cold plunge bath. Hilarious stuff

Anyway, I wonder how the flames department compares with the heavies like Toronto or NYR.

According to their official websites on Sept 21, 2025:

Flames have:
15 amateur scouts in their Amateur scouting department
1 NCAA scout
1 reserve list scout
4 pro scouts
(1 European pro scout) - Nilson not listed yet
edit: you could also argue Sigalet is a goaltending scout as part of his duties as director of goaltending

Leafs have
1 European Scouting Director
12 amateur scouts
5 pro scouts
1 part time pro and amateur scout
1 College free agent scout

Rangers have
4 European scouts
11 Amateur Scouts
4 pro scouts
1 European pro scout
1 Goaltending scout

Awesome so quite possibly one of the biggest scouting departments in the league. Gotta think their player development is up there as well.

Supposedly NHL scouts make around $70-$100K/y, but I think that was NA ones. I'm betting Euros get less - it's a part time, sort of on call job.

Yup the chance where he chipped it on net and Khabibuhlin got his shoulder on it.

I thought at that time - that was it. That was the moment.

It's good mojo me thinks.

JOHN DEER hats for player of the game this year i propose .,

Or. GREEN Hard Hat?

Or Kipper rituals ala Fake Kipper by Mike Richard's where Mikka would take the entrails from some Finnish wildlife and wear them on his head into the locker room before a game where he would defeat the black rubber disc again and again and carry this team on his back ....

Technically Grebeshkov is the Russian scout, but I guess he's listed as an amateur scout. He was the one behind the Matveiko pick. Also, wasn't Hakan Loob the Swedish scout for the Flames at some point? I'm guessing that's the job Nilson takes over.
