Just gotta get this starter out, then the game is ours! At least they worked a couple of counts there...if Scherzer can give up a 7 spot, so can some scrub on the Royals.

MLB umps are such snowflakes.
The Jays aren’t coming back. Pitching and batting have both been horrible while the Royals are hammering everything and getting great defence. Pulling Vlad is basically waving the white flag although he’s done nothing today.
At least the Os helped us out today. Also as tenuous as the Jays division lead feels at least we are not Detroit.

Leave it to Tampa to completely derail the Jays for a bit. Theyve had like 10 hits over the last 3 games.

Hey, at least we're getting our crazy run differential back now! Keep serving them up, Heine! ERA is gonna be rough.

Heineman with a lower ERA than Scherzer this game.

Yeah and that was probably bulletin board material for the Royals tonight. Even earlier this week it was more likely they next Friday’s game would have bigger implications, even if making the playoffs tonight occurred.
Didn’t see it but we’ve seen ugly games this year from this team. 3 losses in a row.

Yeah. Hopefully they clinch the division/bye before then and make next friday a meaningless game, but that could be a pretty important one.

I still wonder if Lauer is one of the three best starters on this team. He has a better ERA than any starter except Yesavage (which is obviously a pretty small sample size).
I like having a lefty starter and I think you should go with the best players no matter what the other choices are named (and how many Cy Youngs they have).
I'd go Gausman, Bieber, Lauer for the playoffs.

Given the lack of exposure to Yesavage, I'd find a way to include him as a starter. Beyond that first round you go from there but the lack of pre-scouting on his pitches could be a huge advantage for them.

I wonder if this pushes berrios to opt out... not a bad thing. I am OK spending money elsewhere

It may. But he knows that he hasn't been sharp. Toronto has the Dominican connection going for themselves. Traditionally Dominican's really like a few team, including the Sox, Orioles and Jays. I can't imagine many teams paying him a ton. I can also see Toronto walking away from him if he does opt out.
