I could never figure Miromanov out. But also don’t think he has the toolbox to be an NHLer. But if he takes a step the Flames Dman bottleneck will become a full on logjam.
Makes the Andersson situation that much more unfortunate.
Hanley, Miromanov, Pachal, and Bean are all effective to varying degrees but replaceable. They occupy weird areas where you might get value for them but you also wouldn’t be totally crushed to lose them on waivers.
There is no logjam or bottleneck. It’s extremely easy to move young players into the D core if they earn it, as the bar to earn it is simply “effective.”

Yeah, Gridin has playmaking skills--from the prospect games, he holds onto the puck a lot and his creativity draws defenders towards him, opening up the ice for a pass--but he also put up 4.2 shots per game last year in the QMJHL. I'm not sure how to find the league leaders in CHL leagues, but the top shooter in the NHL put up 4 a game, so his stats show that he's probably a shoot first guy.
I agree on Coronato, but he's got one of the best shots I've seen and I'd like to see that prioritized.
This might be part of that, as Coronato is good at finding space and that may play really well with Gridin's creativity that seems to suck defenders in and open up the ice for him to pass.
Kadri seems like a bit of an odd fit between them other than he'll hold them accountable and certainly has the skills to play with them--and they don't really have a different option at centre.
I’d make Coronato the Flames Ovie on the powerplay. He has a rocket shot.
Good to hear. I appreciate coaches that are not too rigid in their systems. Systems should be designed around the personnel on the team to some extent.
I also think the overtime needs to be adjusted in terms of the players they deploy. Zary and Coronato looked great in overtime in October/November last year but then saw very little overtime opportunities after that.
I will believe the personnel changes to start overtime when I see it. Unless Andersson is dealt before our first OT game I fully expect Andersson with Kadri and Huby over the boards first.
Speed is the most important thing in those overtimes, excited to see a healthy Zary
Speed is definitely an important factor for puck retrieval. OT to me requires strong puck possession and well-practiced plays amongst the three players given all the room available on the ice. It felt like the Flames did not have much idea of how they were going to attack the other team. I recall a lot of driving to the net with a wrist shot on a goal who is set and ready.
I’d make Coronato the Flames Ovie on the powerplay. He has a rocket shot.
Agreed. Ultimately, the powerplay should be designed around the players available. My hope is that by the end of the season the powerplay units look something like this:

Miromanoc reminds me a lot of Tyson Barrie. Not the version of of Barrie that was valued in Colorado, Toronto and Edmonton but the Barrie that barely stayed in the line up and forced to retire in Nashville and Calgary.
Hanley and Pachel are much better options. Would be thrilled if Miromanov and Bean never played for the Flames again.

Would've been stoked for Naz to get named to Team Canada's team but in another way, I know he's going to be basically on a mission every game this year to stick it to Team Canada for the disrespect and that works out nicely for the Flames.

Kind of like Parekh and the juniors last year. Common theme for the Flames. No respect.
