Good for Gio. Will make a lot of money in Toronto if he has success and climbs the ladder gradually.

His future probably isn't in media. Seemed very wooden on TSN on one of their shows.

I thought Gio would've signed a 1-day contract here to retire as a Flame last year if not for the Gaudreau passing. But I guess he likes to be associated with the Leafs more now...

He's from Toronto, and I believe he often spent his summers in Ontario even while playing here.

Not a perfect comparison but this would be like Makar or Morrissey choosing the retire here, and wanting to apply for a job with the wranglers because this is home.

He's made $65mil, I doubt his aim is money in any capacity. It will be to find purpose and stay connected to the game on some level. It's the career 3rd/4th liners that desperately want to carve out a role where they make as much money as they can each year, usually working TV.

His agent rich winter had some sour grapes towards the flames for not signing an actual contract last year to keep his career going. He said he would have loved to join the management team after 1 more season but Conny squashed it.

I suspect he’s still interested in earning money. Lots of people far richer than Mark Giordano still out there earning.

Yep. If you want to work, you may as well make some money doing it.

Don't think it's an "executive" role.

He wants to live in Toronto, it's where he's from. If he wants to do that and work in hockey, this seems pretty normal.

Maybe he'll be Ed McMahon to Ryan Leslie's Johnny Carson?

No shade to Gio, but this is kind of comforting. Goes to show that Connie isn't just throwing roles at random old boys' club members.
