On the other hand, signing him to a massive deal for 8 years would be glorious because it ties up a ton of money, and their window is either closing or already gone.
There should be no consideration given to wanting him to re-sign. Even if their window closes it wouldn't stop the constant Oilers McDavid this, McDavid that, love fest on Sportsnet and TSN. If he leaves, things can go back to normal and the Oilers can go back to being irrelevant.

I hope he walks and I hope the Oilers miss the playoffs.

Ekholm is done. Nurse is NG. Skinner NG. Nugent Hopkins is soft.

It will truly be a 2-man team and they can't sustain it.

LMAO that is terrific.

McDavid hand picks the president of the Oilers, the coach, and now he'll hand pick his linemates.

Maybe he will stay since he calls literally all the shots. Do they run they also concession menus by him to see if he wants to tweak it?

McDavid could be the first generational talent to never win the cup...

The real question is, who would be considered generational talent? Of all the obvious choices, they all won it before the age of 26. McDavid is 28. Still time? Sure, Ovechkin won it at 31. Is he generational? Probably.

If you expand it to the top 20 scorers of all-time. Marcel Dionne, Joe Thornton and Adam Oates are the only 3 to never win the cup. Ray Bourque, Teemu Selanne and Alex Ovechkin are the only ones to win their first cup in their 30s. Selanne and Bourque were quite old and not exactly the leader of their team anymore.

Marcel Dionne played for crap teams. McDavid has played for a crap team. If he wants to win a cup he needs to get out of Edmonton as I firmly believe their window is closed and sealed shut. I think he knows that too.

I agree with your point and post. However, I have to mention that the best goal scorer of all time isn't "probably" generational. Him and Crosby are the best players from that "generation", easily.

Good point. For a time people were questioning him and I just haven't moved on from that.

Eric Lindros was thought to be generational, and maybe would have been but for injury.

There's a huge list of top level guys, maybe short of generational, though. Iginla, Bure, Perrault, Hawerchuk, Thornton, Luongo, Gartner, Sittler, Pavelski, Lafontaine.

He honestly may be the least charismatic or personable "superstar' ever which makes the cramming of all things McDavid down the public's throats more annoying.

I feel like they are in for a rude awakening without Ekholm. Dude was an absolute cog that masked a lot of deficiencies, especially those of Bouchard. That means more minutes for Nurse and Kulak, who imo are not that great. Walman can only do so much.

I mean one of them was clearly the best player on the ice (TM) in a series where they were swept by the Flames squad that didn't include their top 2 prospects..and the other was...also present?

The Big E definitely should have been considered generational and likely would have steered his team(s) to a couple of cups. Too bad the concussions really derailed his career. The Big E became the Big What If?

You can expand the list of top level guys. It was rare for them to lead their team to a Cup after the age of 28, and if they did win a cup, they weren't the go to guy anymore such as Bourque. I previously mentioned Selanne in the same vane but he really was exceptional still at the age of 36.

Oof.

He is seriously thinking about leaving. I'd say at this point, I would be surprised if he signs.

Friedman: "What do you want to see.. to get you to commit?"

"McDavid: "I guess the answer is nothing. Its all here... for 25/26."

If nothing is needed, and you still havent signed...

I consider Lindros generational talent as if you could build the perfect power forward, it would be him. He had the skating and talent of a generational player in a chiseled body of a Greek God at 6'4" 240 pounds. Was well over a ppg in the clutch and grab era of the 90's. Who knows what he could have achieved if not for Stevens ruining his career.

You can tell how pent up he is to unleash his actual thoughts and give us "We still haven't been given a #1 goaltender. I still don't have a bonafide top line winger to go on the other side with Hyman. Draisaitl still doesn't have decent linemates so we always have to double shift and stack the top line just to stay afloat. Every year it's new UFAs out of the bargain bin and raw rookies thrown into the fire. I fully intend to win here in 25/26. The odds are low but of course I have to keep repeating that for another 8 months and then after that I'm going UFA suckas!"
