I doubt they do it without a 100% chance he signs.
It would be fairly comical if Carolina made that same mistake again in a high profile trade. I can't see them doing that. If they are moving a piece like Svechnikov, they will want an extension in place.

I just don't see why the Hurricane would do that. Is KK better than Svechnikov? Yes. Is he 9-11M a year better? I don't think so.

The only way Carolina is adding Kaprizov is if they are paying for him as a rental. Kaprizov is not someone you offer a bunch of assets to and not re-sign him to a reasonable 8-year deal. And there is nothing reasonable about Kaprizov's demands as of right now. If a team wants to fork over 16m, they're going to use that and allocate it towards McDavid first. Plus, they learned their mistake with Rantanen. Svechnikov is signed to a very friendly cap, I doubt he gets moved.

You made me do a double take, because Huricanes fans often refer to Kotkaniemi as KK.
Just to play devil's advocate he isn't $9-11M better, but the Canes have $10.5M of cap space this year with no one to spend them on. They will also have $16M next year, with only Nikishin as the potential raise. At the same time they're looking to get over the hump and finally get out of the conference finals. So will Kapriz give them a better chance to do that? Definitely. That said, I still think they need to address their goalie situation, and upgrade the D before they make such a trade.

If he can be part of the additions that push them over the top then it's worth it and they're desperately trying to figure out what they can do to get into cup conversation as right now they're just wasting that roster depth year after year.

I don't see overpaying a winger who has issues staying healthy and handicapping your salary cap to add more important pieces that are needed as a way to get over the top. Now if they can get him as a rental for futures to make a run this year than sure.

You don't see it as a way, but it would be why they would do it.
I'd take him as back up to Wolf here - if he has a good start he becomes an asset that can be moved at the deadline to a team that needs a goaltending upgrade.

To be fair, a lot of people don't know the racial undertones the saying is associated with. The saying actually existed before and the racial stuff was applied to it.
