Frequent flyer miles from a divorce lawyer is comedy gold.

I used Diana when she was starting out. She was great. Did exactly as I asked and gave valuable advice before the separation started.

We refer many clients to Vogel as well as Oakley Family Law.

My family law friends have said it is busier. I don't know if that is data driven or anecdotal, but they do get quite a bit of calls wherein the main impetus is stampede related.

Ugh. Thread bump. Currently separated and living in the same house, wife is mentally ill, separation was initiated by her. I had previously hoped that her mental health would improve, and if not, the divorce would be pretty straightforward and non-contentious, as we'd already agreed on everything, but with her mental health not improving, and her mental competence as a wildcard, I have come to accept that I need to at least speak to a lawyer, right now, to find out what I don't know and what I need to do to protect my finances. I have had one referral, and they have told me it would be $550 for a one hour meeting. Just looking for other referrals and what the going rate is?
(Sorry about the username, I have no recollection of how I chose it and never bothered to change it as I didn't think I 'd be a repeat poster.)

A lawyer charging $550 per hour probably has 20+ years experience.
A 5-10 year lawyer should be much less. Try a boutique family law firm like Resolve with a range of lawyers.

Think I paid $400 an hour when I went through that nightmare. I’ll echo others comments about trying to minimize lawyer involvement and de-escalate negotiations if possible. Look out for the best interest of the kids (if there are any) and it 100% gets better when it’s all over. Takes a bit of time to get there though.

Sorry to here about your situation. I used Calgary Family Lawyers on recommendation from a lawyer friend. They are a big, expensive downtown firm and I wasn't real happy with them They got it done, but just felt I wasn't big enough business for them. I have recommended Hande Law to a couple of my friends and they were very happy. The one friend is still using her for other legal matters. She is located in Varsity and a single Lawyer firm. She is super smart and very understanding. I wasn't able to use her as there was a personal connection. I do not know her hourly rate but can't see in being what I paid CFL.
