This is all just a ploy so the media can declare the Oilers are the best team in the league and Hart seen them as the best option to win blah blah, when in reality it’s probably a one team race to sign him….. the Oilers.

They put so much work into this crap, embarrassing

He wouldn't get out dirt bagged except for the fact that any Canadian city is a landmine for any of these players to sign with due to the media. Only one of these players is signing a contract and none of them will sign in Canada.

Would think the Lightning would want to look at options besides Jonas Johansson, but that organization has traditionally held a high standard for character (the trades of DeAngelo and Ingram).

FWIW, the article says the Flyers and Oilers are nonstarters. Sounds like Hart’s preference will be a US based team. Looking for a 2-3 year deal. He will likely start in the AHL.

I’m betting it’s Nashville that’s where he was training while waiting for the trial. I know it’s not a popular opinion here but I believe they should get a second chance - they were young at the time and used bad judgment but the Judge found EM not credible. The trial should never have happened.

However any team that signs them would have to contend with fans who think differently - based on comments in the Athletic articles it seems like it’s 50/50 among people engaged enough to comment. Not sure how it breaks down among people who don’t follow it closely.

It would be appropriate for him to wear the Predators uniform.

Luke Fox on Sportsnet suggests that at least one other player will sign soon, although it appears to be speculation on his part as he offers no proof or guesses. Formenton has signed in Europe, and I can't see anyone taking a flyer on Cal Foote at this point. If Hart is the guaranteed one, are teams also looking at McLeod and/or Dube?

I mean you could make the argument that Dube's stats went down dramatically around the time he would have likely started understanding what was happening with charges coming.

He's still 27, had back to back 18 goal seasons and then suddenly produced next to nothing in 2023/24 until going on leave after game 43 (could probably barely think about hockey that season). He also played last season in the KHL, so wasn't sitting around. I personally wouldn't take on the drama associated with him for a hope of a return to an 18 goal player, but I wouldn't be surprised if a team does, either.

McLeod was established as third-line checking centre with the Devils. Like Dube, he’s been playing in the KHL. Wouldn’t be surprised if a team took a flyer on him at league minimum.

I wonder if they’re looking to sign in the states partly because the trial took place in Canada and they want to distance themselves from the country.

It’s a matter of wanting to go to markets where they’d have a lower public profile. They’ll be anonymous when they’re out in public in Anaheim, Raleigh, or Nashville. That’s wouldn’t be the case in Ottawa, Montreal, or Vancouver.

Not 100% confirmed, but I’ve heard through some circles that Edmonton inquired on both Hart and Dube

Grubauer has been terrible in Seattle, so wonder if they would look at Hart to battle for the backup job.

That's my bet as well. They have no morality like Edmonton so it makes sense.

If he's in the AHL for anything more than a conditioning stint, wouldn't he have to clear waivers?

So he'd chose not to sign in Canada for privacy, then the Oilers would claim him off waivers.

Chris Johnston on the latest episode of his podcast:

"I do think there will be considerable interest particularly in Carter Hart, but also Michael McLeod and Dillon Dube. Those players have pretty extensive - for younger players which they were when they ceased playing in the league - extensive NHL resumes. And I do think that there will be a lot of interest in their services. And I at this point would say it's highly likely we see those three at minimum play NHL games at some point this season."
