The statement from the league says pushing it out to December will make it around two years since they last played. Effectively, the league decided that their behaviour warranted two year suspensions.
Quote:
“Each of the players, based on in-person meetings with the league following the verdicts, expressed regret and remorse for his actions,” the statement continue. “Nevertheless, we believe their conduct requires formal league-imposed discipline.
“Given their conduct, we carefully evaluated the players’ acquittal in court and the time spent away from the game. Taking into account that the players have been away from the game for 20 months — including since their acquittals in July — we have determined that the players will be eligible to sign an NHL contract no sooner than Oct. 15, 2025, and eligible to play in NHL games no sooner than Dec. 1, 2025, bringing their total time out of the league to nearly two years.

He's the mouthpiece for the organization so this is likely a good indicator that they are in fact very interested in bringing in Hart.

By all means Jeff Jackson, please sign Carter Hart. A guy who hasn’t played in 2 years with this potential huge black mark hanging over his mental wellness, has had one season with a GAA <2.50, 5 years ago, & has had one season with a winning W-L record. He’s been mediocre, at best, the last 5 years. Carter Hart can’t save the Oilers.

As if being a goalie isn't hard enough on its own, imagine the pressure in his situation:
- hasn't played in 2 full years
- has only played 153 games since COVID hit, 5 and a half years ago
- would be playing in a Canadian city that has crucified every goalie that dared play there, and where the media blames the goalie for every loss
- would be booed mercilessly in every Cdn city and probably many US cities
- would be asked every day about the trial, and about fan reaction
- would have the added, relentless pressure of being McDavid's savior
And all that would be on the shoulders of a young man who just went through a very public trial, and has struggled with mental health at times (if I am not mistaken)...
What could possibly go wrong?

An acquittal does not mean "proven innocent", but when you are trying to spin things, I guess that is what you say.

What happened to E.M. is not something I would describe as "stuff happens". That's a way to describe accidental minor adverse events. Not a situation where multiple young men took advantage of a vulnerable woman, in a situation in which she was powerless. Their acquittal does nothing to absolve them of how egregiously morally wrong their actions were.

"Stuff happens" is when you forget to pay for your gum at the grocery story because it was under a flat of pop in your cart.
It is not what happened with E.M.. But when you are spinning things, you stay "stuff" like that.

The point of this suspension is to give a date when it's "okay for them to come back." Without an official suspension, this would just hang around them.
Most likely none of them would be in shape to play NHL to start the season anyway.
(Personally, I don't have strong feelings about this suspension, it's just how I see it.)

Oh look it's a reminder of why I don't post here; especially against the grain of the group think.
Will stick to the ticket section

The accuser:
Contradicted her own testimony about initiating physical contact at the bar, changing her story only AFTER being shown video evidence.
Appeared sober and spoke coherently on video during and after the incident.
Admitted in a text to one of the accused that she consented to sex with him.
Texted a third-party friend right after the incident that she was "being dramatic" and that she had put herself in a "bad situation."
Texted that same friend the next day that she "hadn’t been 'lit enough' that night." Again this goes against her claim she was incapacitated by alcohol.
Was described in testimony by one teammate as "vocally" expressing what she wanted sexually in the hotel room.
Was described in testimony by another teammate (not on trial) as "chirping" the players, egging them on, and calling them "pussies" for not engaging with her.
Testified that she did not believe the men would have physically prevented her from leaving the room, which undermined her claim of being trapped by fear.
Rejected an offer of help from a friend at the bar, replying that she was "fine," and then ignored that friend's subsequent calls and messages.
Altered her story about comments made by the players, describing them as "joking" to police but later as "intimidating and frightening" in her civil lawsuit.
Sent snap chats, ect. that she was looking for more guys to hook up with.
Walked past her own clothes multiple times and stayed naked while different people came and left the room.

Thanks Bob

The Athletic reporting Hart is expected to come to an agreement with a US team by Oct 1st that will officially be registered on Oct 15. Expected to be a 2 or 3 year contract

Katz is going to be mad if the Oilers get out-dirtbagged by another team.
