It's absolutely a real name.
The ski hill was named after its location, Paskapoo Slopes. The location was named for the local sandstone, which is part of the Paskapoo Formation. That, in turn, was named after the Blindman River where the sandstone was first discovered. ‘Paskapiw’ is a Cree word meaning ‘He is blind’.

If you want to have real fun, there's another word that turns up in a number of place names in Calgary: Shaganappi. It comes from the Cree word for a rawhide thong or cord. But if you say it to an Englishman, he will do a double take and say, ‘Do
what to a
what?’
