I hope he brings back the yellow pads for his final game.
I like this better than the "one day contract" stuff so a player can retire with a specific team. Wouldn't it have been amazing to see Iggy flying down the right side with Monahan and Johnny if only for one preseason game?

This is pretty cool and hopefully something other teams adopt for when a legend retires with another team and doesn't get a last game in their home uniform.

Reminds me a bit of Theo playing in that pre-season game that time.
It's been tarnished a bit now due to his position politically since then, but I can't remember many games as electric as that one in the Saddledome.

There was another Fleury who got a PTO with his original team after he was done playing... though he may not agree that he was done since he thought he was the best player on the team during camp and burned bridges with his team when he was cut.

Well he also sort of tarnished it immediately by bitching about not making the team.

We celebrated that shootout winner like a playoff win. That was a really good night at the dome.
I think that was also the night that Dion almost killed someone. And I think an islander came off the bench and got a 10 game suspension.

It was cool to watch, but he was slow as molasses out there, and it was VERY clear he wasn't up to NHL speed anymore.
Eric Duhatschek at the time said words to the effect of "small and slow has never been a successful NHL combination". Sutter similarly said "Honor the past. Don't live in it." when Fleury was cut.
I really wanted it to happen, so those things stick out in my mind.
Now of course, I'm pleased it didn't. That loon didn't need any more money or success in life.

4 points in 4 preseason games.. yes I know preseason- that was with not playing for years but we missed the playoffs by 5 points that season with us dead last in scoring ( 6th best in GA- Kipper)
I always wonder if we gave him some time, if he could have been the difference there. He did look really good in preseason shootout...
“I get cut,” Fleury wrote. “What a joke! Craig Conroy goes the first 37 games of the season with zero goals. I wonder how many I would have had. Even with all the stupid people that run the game of hockey, it’s still a great game. Go figure.
