It's only a matter of time before teams gawk at us throwing either Zayne or Hunter over the boards for 50 minutes a night. Similar to how people gawk at Miro and Thomas in Dallas.

Good to hear. Not sure why an overcrowded, undertalented team had to hang on to every single forward from last year but hopefully they can make a bit of room.

That would be absolutely amazing. It's great when the Flames have a mobile D, that can quickly transition the puck and generate offense. I miss having Gio, Brodie, and Hamilton driving the offense from the backend.

It's a bit more complicated at forward. With Pospisil, Klapka, Lomberg, Kirkland, Morton, and Kerins fighting for the bottom 4 spots. Here likely a trade is needed if a young steals a spot, or we'd be losing a decent forward on waivers.

The other option is to go the Coronato/Zary route. Send the player down despite a great camp, and call him up after 2-10 games. Players get injured, or get to a bad start, so there will be an opening rather quickly.
Just feels like they are going to have to start moving some older players out this season. But more likely next season when younger players earn a spot. Or like you said start losing decent players for nothing. I was only thinking D was an issue now. But I think that will switch to forwards soon.

I think you meant people will gawk when we throw either Zayne, Hunter OR Mews over the boards for 60min!

So glad hockey is back.

Yeah. It’s already a logjam of young players that look close to ready for the NHL and spots are not opening up quickly. It’s tough enough to fit in guys like Klapka into the top nine right now. A year from now, Guys like Suniev and Gridin could be pushing for spots. Then Potter and Reschny after that. Spots will become available of course but I think it will be slow enough that some talent might slip through the cracks.

The Athletic had a good article on Yurov training with NHLers, in particular Krieder who apparently manages a bit of Russian, helping him out. It was barely a mention but Suniev was part of the same group.

Morin nevers gets talked about enough. What he did this year and in the memorial cup was so impressive on both sides of the puck. One year in the AHL and then on the big team imo.

Parekh, Brzustewicz, and Morin making up half the NHL D group in a short matter of time is pretty exciting.

I really like Bahl and Weegar being the vets to usher that group in as well. I love Razzy but his departure is right for the team at this junction. Really hope we hit a relative homerun with his return.

Would be nice to get some scoring horsepower

I still have him number 3 on the prospect list because when a player has talent, like he does, and adds size, like he's starting to do, it's really just the head part and then maintaining confidence.

Last year, the big story line with him was how appreciative he was in how much Pospisil helped and pushed him during offseason training. But from his interview yesterday:

"This year, [...] I pushed [Pospisil...] because I want to be better than him."

It wasn't made as an arrogant comment--although you can see with his grin, he knows how it'll land with Pospisil--but a mature comment around the progress he's made (that whole interview was pretty mature).

He's going to be fun to watch this year.

Love the attitude. I read a lot of comments about "there's no room for the kids", but, if they push a vet out of the line up, they'll make room. That's how teams get better, but putting better players in/pushing worse players out. If Sam Honzek is better than Joel Farabee, he's going to be put in and make the team stronger. That's not a bad thing at all.

I'm with you on Honzek, but at #6 I think he lands in a good place between ignoring two poor development years with injury, and writing him off for such.

So can Honzek make it to 6.04 230lbs? He'll be the next Lindros!

Honzek just needs to stay healthy. He made the team last year. And struggled after yet another injury.

Adding 15 pounds of muscle will certainly help . Hope he breaks out this year. He definitely was there last year. Just. Stay. Healthy.

Two inches taller and ~15lbs heavier than Pospisil. Imagine if Honzek is as rock-solid as him.

Yeah, the actual vote of 6th wasn't unreasonable, but there are many who thought that was way too high for him, and basically think he is borderline bust - it is those people to whom I was referring.
