I inherited a small coin collection. Currently sitting in a safety deposit box so I don't have full inventory. Most are from the 60's and 70"s. There might be a couple $100 gold coins which maybe have a little bit of value.
Any recommendations on Calgary area coin dealers who can give a fair assessment of value? I'm really not into coins and there is no sentimental value so all things being equal, I'm inclined to offload them and invest proceeds in index funds for my kids. I'm sure selling as a lot to a dealer won't get the best price but I'm not very interested in going on ebay and trying to maximize the proceeds. I doubt it's worth all that much in the aggregate.

There's also a coin dealer in Crossroads Market. It was just recently sold-- maybe a few months ago--and I don't know much about the new owners. However, the previous owner was the general manager of Albern Coins.
If it were me, I'd get an appraisal at both places.

You're always going to get a higher return selling yourself. You can sell on Ebay or sell on local online markets (I'd suggest listing about 10-20% below Ebay prices).
If you don't want to deal with the risk and hassle yourself, then sell to a local dealer. Things like gold coins should get you a higher return selling to dealers, as the gold itself has value. Otherwise, you're probably looking at 50 cents on the dollar, or less, type of deals.
Until you get to take the collection for appraisal you can check out kitco. I inherited a massive coin collection, most of it isn't worth anything but there was some gold coins and I sold them to Kitco for a pretty penny. I just wish I waited a couple years because that penny is much prettier now!

Yeah I hear you. But I think I'd rather just buy a gold ETF or stock in gold companies than hold gold coins.
I still have a stack of mint condition $2 bills that we had gotten from the bank when they switched to the toonie. Not sure if they're even worth more than $2 a piece at this point, but I've had it for like 30 years now.

Looks like some can be worth a bit, some... $2.00.
