it's true, the killer instinct to gut out wins is something that has been lacking for well over a decade.

Well if the Jays could just get shut outs out of every Towers start they'd win a few games.....second time in as many home outings that the Jays win a Towers start 1-0. Seems like if they can't get a start where they give up 2 runs or less they have no chance these days.

Just thought I would throw this stat out there for those of you who think its pitching that is the problem. On the radio this morning, the Jays pbp team mentioned how the Jays are hitting .280 as a team since the break but only .188 with runners in scoring position. That right there tells why this team is 4-6 since the break.

Add to that the fact that the Jays are a horrible situational hitting team, and basically move station to station hoping for the home run. Since the break the Jays have been terrible for getting two guys on with no outs and than a guy like Zaun hits into a double play and than McDonald comes up and strikes out sort of thing. The team gets very few productive outs and I don't think I've seen a team that hits more routine fly balls than this group. CaramonLS is right, it's a horrible constructed/balanced lineup. Too many right handed hitters, and not enough guys who can work counts and get on base, nor can they do anything when they do get on base.

3 hit complete game shutout for Halladay, Glaus with a big 3 run homer and Rios, of course, with some timely hits. That's the team I like to see.

couple of pretty impressive starts in a row. what an inconsistent team though, long ball today, possibly nothing tommorow. oh well, good win nonetheless.

That one pitch really got Felix off his game, not that he had his best stuff going today but he really lost his focus on that very close pitch. Once he lost focus he lost the game. I think the Jays scored 5 runs after that pitch.

That was a BEAUTY throw by Thigpen. Glad to see the Jays step up over the last few games. Especially cause I'm heading to TO over the August long to see them play the Rangers and Yankees!!!

But I totally agree that they are a horrible team when they have guys in scoring position. I do not understand the apprehension for not playing "small ball" or NL style ball. Guys on 1st and 2nd with no out = BUNT and sacrifice yourself to advance the runners. Then a single or long fly at least may score rather than a double play.

Jays are not built nor are they coached to play small ball. They are built to be a power hititng club whether thats a good choice or not thats just the style JP expects them to play.

The apprehension is because small ball limits a team's ability to score runs and doesn't improve it. The only logical time to play small ball is in the 8th with a below average hitter at the plate or in the 9th.

The problem is that a lot of times it's guys like Zaun, McDonald, Clayton or Reed Johnson hitting in those situations. You can't keep having Gregg Zaun ground into DP's in this situation. None of those guys is there to hit the ball out of the park, those guys need to execute situational hitting or you replace them. But I've seen so many rallies die of late and usually it's been one of those three who killed it with a worst case scenario at bat. I also think the likes of Thomas and Wells had been guilty lately of trying to hit everything out of the park and hitting too many routine pop ups. These guys need to get into a groove of hitting the ball and than looking to drive it out of the park.

But they've hit the ball out of the park the last couple games. Maybe they'll get on that roll that they've been waiting for all year.

it seems to be the pattern. It would be nice to see them go on a winning streak and get to within 6 games of the wild card. It would be exciting if the Jays games late in August mean something for once.

On the good side, they finally look like a team with a MLB starting rotation and bullpen. I can't remember the last time I heard that about them.

The problem is if the Jays do get hot, the Yankees have hit there stride and will probably catch up for the wildcard.

Maybe but this is the first time all season in which the Jays are even close to be healthy. Will be interesting to see what will happen if the Jays can get Chacin and AJ back.
