Bats finally woke up!

Too bad Vlad couldn't put his stamp on the game. Need a clean inning here and try to walk it off.

Le Tigres are doing us another solid tonight.

Another fun ending to a game.

As long as they win

Can’t use Hoffman as the closer anymore, this is ridiculous.

Sigh. And the Hoff makes an appearance.

15 homeruns given up by a closer is insane.

I really don’t know how you can hand the ball to Hoffman to close a game come playoff time.

Hoffman doing Hoffman things.

Today's trivia question:

Which players in the Blue Jays bullpen have a better ERA than the closer?

Answer: all of them.

I really don't know how the batters could be this weak against Jason Alexander.

Did the guys party too hard yesterday???

Well it was fun until Hoffman entered the chat.

What a dud.

I know Hoffman gave up the ghost again but this loss here is on the weak ass hitters.

Bats need to wake up earlier than the 7th or 8th inning (again).
And need to score more than 2 runs to win most MLB games.

Someone needs to find out what blackmail Hoffman has on John Schneider and give it to Davis Schneider.

I don't care what he got promised when he signed that contract - at some point winning the games is more important than him getting a turn.

Just novice level hitting last 2 games overall. Unacceptable.

Not even a single run off the journeyman Alexander. What a disgrace.

Top 4 batters were 1-16, 1-20 if you throw Kirk in to ge the top 5. That’s terrible. Hoffman blew it but make no mistake, the offense has been awful after Friday night.

Sucks that Hoffman gave up the bomb but Hoffman was 5 straight scoreless games before this one.

Bats are why they lost this game

The dunking on Hoffman isn't just recency bias. He's given up 15 HR in 62 IP. That's terribad. His ERA is close to 5.

His 12 HR given up in the 9th or later is already a single-season record for the franchise. It might stand a long time, because normally someone who gives up that many home runs they're no longer pitching in leverage situations.

He's either great or terrible - and that level of inconsistency just doesn't work for a closer on a playoff team.

Edited to add: obviously bats are a huge issue and 2 runs/game isn't enough. But it's possible to have more than 1 problem at the same time, and Hoffman is a problem right now.

Edited to add 2: Hopefully today was Varland getting over his "moving to Canada" jitters and getting back to what he was in Minny. He pitched very well dotting the edges at 99 and with great movement on his breaking pitches. We're going to need some reliable arms in the pen - doesn't matter who but they need a few guys to step up.
