What Scroopy said. This should not be surprising to anyone in the slightest. It was an inevitable outcome - the only variable was which person on the right, and when. Nothing changed after so many horrific shootings, nothing will change now, at least in terms of the outright worshipping of the 2A. I'm not cheering, but I am rather indifferent to his demise, particularly after so many of his comments when this happened to other people. I feel badly for his children, but I also wonder what sort of zealots this may turn them into, down the road. This is a never ending circle of gun violence.

I didn't know who Kirk was until now. The U.S gun issue has now crossed the isle. Now the Right will obviously use this to make him a Martyr (got a ton foil hat?) and really get that civil war fuel ignited. The left has unanimously condemned the shooting so far. Except for the few who also recognize this is a total FAFO moment.

I just think the FAFO isn't what is perceived. This is mortar for the collapsing MAGA foundation.

What would Charlie Kirk say about this if it happened to someone else? Say, a Minnesota legislator? Or a school kid?

Man, you are very optimistic. I don’t see that at all. Gun folks will double down. Remember the give teachers guns movement?

We know what he said.

He said that gun deaths are worth it for the 2nd amendment. He should be thanked but not pitied. This man died as a direct consequence of his vision of America and felt that the negative outcomes were worth it

Kind of like how there are no tributes or homages to Rush Limbaugh after his death. These grifters never provided any value and the world is a better place without them.

It would be nice if the last synapses of his brain allowed him to see the irony of only for a split second. Probably not, but I hope.

That's what I mean, the MAGA right will double down and really get militant. "It was fine until our blood got spilled, now it's on!"

Tim Walz quickly took to X and condemned what he called an act of targeted violence.

“An open forum for political dialogue and disagreement was upended by a horrific act of targeted violence,” Walz said. He made the post before the report of Kirk's death. “In America, we don’t settle our differences with violence or at gunpoint. I’m praying for Charlie, his family, and his young children.”

Seems clear this is an act of political violence, and not in the same category as many of the shooting the US sadly endures on a weekly or daily basis.

#### around, find out. I guess.

I'm not going to particularly mourn this or feel terrible for the people who loved someone terrible. But I also don't think this is a great victory.

I think this is firmly in the direction the US is heading no mater what. There is only so much concentration of wealth and power that can be had before people start lashing out, in an authoritarian state like this, either the people or the state are going to resort to actions that otherwise would not be happening if there were some form of shared discourse.

Worth noting that the state is already torturing people and committing summary executions, so not really the start of something more the continuation and worsening of ongoing civil strife. I would be warry that it still has a long way to go before it is as bad as it can get, and if you want to avoid this probably the best thing to do is be an indebted, mid-west, middle aged white man, working 1.75 jobs and occasionally seeing your 0.75 wives / 1.5 children, that doesn't get too involved politically and whose grandfather was American. If that's you, good chance you'll avoid all of this as long as someone doesn't shoot up your kids school.

Unless the shooter was far right (like they overwhelmingly are), including the assassin in Minnesota and kid who shot in Trumps general direction. Those tend to disappear weirdly quickly.
