The majority of mass shootings are carried out by white cis gendered males. So if you’re going to ban guns…

I would bet that they decide to break away from the US and they might be interested in joining Canada just because they would not be able to join California.

And then if NY splits off, what happens with the states that are northeast of NY? You could probably have VT, MA, NH, CT, RI, and Maine thinking hard about moving with NY.

What is scary is how right wing the remainder of the US would be...
Yes. This is a fracture of the union. I don't really see how this moves forward without leading to civil war. You have Red states preparing to send troops to Blue states, they've already done it to DC. As soon as someone is killed by a National Guard troop from a red state, all hell will break loose.

It's bigger than this though, we've seen Britain falling down this path. The Labour party taking a hard right turn to restrict freedoms and appease the reformers, but that's going to fail as the UK Reformers are widely leading in polls, Canada is doing the same now under Carney's Liberal party.

Conservatism used to be about small government and limited regulation, but now it's all about finding scapegoats (immigrants, LGBTQ, etc.) and punishing them - it's driven from so much anger.

The future of western society is not about right versus left, that's just how the powerful have framed it for us.

Genital inspections should be mandatory for purchasing a gun. Got it.

Oh, that's just for female sports?? Weird.

Wouldn’t this separation nonsense inspire a civil war? They wouldn’t go easily. Didn’t they already try that?

I do vaguely recall reading about Americans having a slight disagreement with one another way back in 1861.

Here's the deal with it: The odds of Alberta seceding from Canada are exponentially higher than the idea of California separating from the US even reaching true public discourse. This is nothing more than online fanfiction to cope with the state of the world. Fun little idea though

A bipartisan bill we should all support has actually passed the House.

Giving pilots and ATCs access to mental health support will save lives and careers.

Yes, slightly more than 50% of mass shootings are completed by white people, but the percentages of mass shootings by race is pretty similar to the demographic make up in the U.S. in general with Latinos being under represented.

White people make up about 59% of the population and about 54% of mass shooters.

Black people make up about 12% of the population and about 17% of mass shooters.

Latinos make up about 19% of the population and about 8% of mass shooters.

Asians make up about 6% of the population and about 6% of mass shooters.

Native Americans make up about 3% of the population and about 2% of mass shooters.

About 12% of shooters fall under "other" or where their racial background was not clear.

What you're describing is Fascism, it should be called what it is.

Here is what Gemini AI tells me Fascism is, tell me if this sounds familiar:
Quote:
Fascism is a far-right, ultranationalist, and authoritarian political ideology characterized by a powerful, often dictatorial, leader, a cult of national unity, the suppression of opposition, and a glorification of violence. It emerged in early 20th-century Europe as a reaction to the instability and perceived weakness of democratic systems, promising national rebirth and order at the cost of individual freedoms. Key features include extreme nationalism, scapegoating of minorities, extensive state control over the economy and society, and propaganda.

This is huge. I'm not sure if you've seen The Rehearsal season 2, but that showed how badly this is needed.

What struck me is that there's a lone white guy wandering around a full blown riot in a foreign country, yet at no point did it seem he was in any danger apart from maybe a stray shot from the police. Everyone he encountered was friendly, giving him water, and when he returned to his bike that he abandoned nobody had touched it. I would have felt safer walking around a revolution in Nepal than a riot in Vancouver after a hockey game

I think we are dealing with two devastating issues concurrently that are the core of what we have so many people wanting massive change:

1. We are seeing declining economic growth across the developed world. This means depressed wages and job opportunity. A big part of this has been outsourcing lots of jobs to Asia, and now AI. The outcome is that wages don't keep up with cost of living, and people spend more time out of work. In some places there is effectively no work. I'm not sure if we will ever see massive growth again to be honest.

2. We are dealing with massive asset inflation. Or it could be massive devaluation of fiat currency due to crippling debts in most developed nations. Gold has gone from $500 to $3600 in 20 years! Home prices and stocks are doing something similar. This means that with #1 above, the cost of everything goes up but your paycheque doesn't.

Both of the above are really hard problems to solve. Further, if you don't have a basic grasp of math or economics, it is hard to understand these issues and how they relate.

Which means that those who are the most impacted (less educated, rural, manual labourers) struggle to understand why, but they want a solution, and one that is easy to understand they will latch onto.

They want change, just don't have the ability to understand if what's being proposed will actually improve their lives.

Added to this, there is tremendous headwinds about solving the core issues. I think a politician would have a massive upheaval of a nations economy and lots of hardship. How many politicians want to be voted out the next election?

So everything is pushing for ineffective solutions from existing politicians and wild (but simple) solutions from those politicians on the fringes.

And so we are in this death march of trying terrible ideas that don't address the root problems.

I wouldn't be sure it isn't America-related... most of the protests which start peacefully, but then turn violent around the world are supported by America behind the scenes with funding, social media propaganda and organizers.
