Where the Shell station was I assume? Ages ago now though. They had such unique buildings, stone and timber; that one, the 2 others i recall as well, one on Elbow and Southland and another in Maple Ridge.

Not just ucp, he hosted a bunch of the Take Back Alberta meetings and in support of the clownvoy turds as well. And it was always so funny, they would say you had to contact them in order to go, the meeting place was 'secret', but it always at that food market.

Southland & Acadia too
The Husky in Lakeview is that design, with the faux chimney. It doesn't have the timber or stone facade though.

There was a Shell there? When did it get taken out? I think it’s the big empty space on the SE corner of the strip mall. Traffic will be an issue there

Yeah, there was a Shell on the corner back when I went to Scarlett in the early 90s.
It looks like it closed so long ago, it's already gone in the oldest Street View image from 2009. Probably sometime in the early 2000s.

There were once gas stations on 3-4 corners of every major intersection along Elbow. The change from lots and lots of small gas stations all over the place, to fewer but much bigger gas stations is one of those changes that happened so gradually that it was easy to miss.

Canterbury and Elbow had 2, Southland and Elbow had 3, Heritage and Elbow 3, Glenmore and Elbow 2 or 3, Mcleod trail in the area was littered with them as well between Anderson and Glenmore, must have been lots more money in gas stations back in the day

Traffic is already an issue during school rush hour times, things will only get a lot worse. Having a McDonald's within walking distance, my waistline may also get worse.

Fewer gas stations because of the environmental clean up costs after a tank leak. Most of them closed after their tanks got to be a certain age and the risk of a leak went way up.

I think the downfall of the local gas station was 'Pay at the Pump.'
Its easier, more convenient and obviously much safer for the employees, but gas stations back in the day made their bank on selling you criminally over-priced beef jerky and pop when you had to come inside to pay.
Over time though? I had two friends work at gas stations in High School and their answer was always the same: 'what do you make your money on?'
"Cigarettes and Red Bull."

A lot of them had a mechanic or two on staff with a repair bay which would have helped with thier revenue stream. You don't really see that much anymore.

And once the tanks were removed didnt the plot of land have to sit vacant for a very, very long time?

I knew someone that rented a house down the hill from the Petro Canada on Elbow and Southland- Petro Canada owned the house so they could test the soil and make sure there was no contamination

I worked at a full-service gas station after high school. A Co-Op one.
Most customers were cool, but you'd get these fat white trash bitches who would want you to check their tire pressure (knowing of course they had a leak because you saw the same chunky idiot once a week). Then they'd want you to fill up their tires. They're always the ones who wanted you to squeegee their side windows and lights, too. Like, get off your duff and pitch in on taking care of you own crap you dumb bitch.

Working in Banff on the 90's people would come in and buy all manner of junk food and bottles of water(you are in Banff, go turn on the tap!) for $1.50 a litre, and would complain about the price of gas(it was around 50c/l). But ya, cigarettes were the big money.

I HATED Co-Op Full-Serve gas bars, I still do but I used to too.
I get it, its nice, its convenient, maybe the weather outside sucks so make the kid pump your gas?
But I can pump my own gas rather than sitting there like an idiot while someone else does it for me.

Worked at one after HS as well and can confirm all of the above. But it was a step up from my part time HS job of dish pig at Pizza Hut. The smell still haunts me.

Haha! In high school, and after I worked at a full serve Husky. Similar fat/useless people would ask the same.
I actually enjoy, and still do, squeegee’ing my windows. Like, I take pride in no lines, with my technique. I remember getting a tip now and then, and a few former flames would stop in too. It was a great first job.
And grocery was next door, so didn’t have to dick around with pop, darts etc
