I thought it was just okay overall. It wasn't 'bad' but I'd hoped for a little more from an 'Ortegas-Centric' episode because she's an interesting character and I think a good actress, but I felt she could carry more weight for her own episode.
As it was, it felt too much like a 'Paint by Numbers' Star Trek episode, like an old TNG Beverly Crusher episode. Just kind of 'there.'
Now, that was all well and good back in the old '26 Episode Season' days, but if you're only giving us 10 and enormous gaps in between seasons at the same time, you pretty well have to smash them all out of the park.

Essentially Strange New Worlds does Enemy Mine (or TNG's The Enemy, Enterprise’s Dawn). I really liked it, until the ending when they shoehorned in the Metron. It didn’t need the callback; the episode worked fine.

It was alright, it was a combination of Enemy mine, and the BattleStar Galactica episode where Starbuck went missing and Adama risked everything to save her.
By the was Pike's decision making here in real world instances makes him a bad Captain if he can't let go of individual crew members.
The ending wasn't needed and the episode would have been more poignant without it. If they wanted a big ending or proper ending, Orgega attacks Singh out of grief for her friend. Or when they get back to the ship confronts her physically and they can keep playing the Ortega PTSD and confusion over the Gorn.
I don't know why I found the agree disagreement dialogue as so good, but I did.
This season hasn't been near the quality of the previous two, and they're not being super creative in terms of writing.
Oh and they punished Ortega for risking the crew, yet Uhura gets away with it and Pike says he knows she fudged the numbers, seems like a weird double standard here.

I didn't understand why Ortega was so obsessed with food? She was only there for a few days, but was acting like she was starving right after she crashed, and went hunting on a hostile alien planet?
I assumed some sort of time dilation was occurring where she was there for weeks and months and we just didn't see it, but that doesn't appear to have been the case.
I also found it suuuuper predictable.
Unfair to compare it to "Darmok", but even that episode where LaForge and the Romulan have to get out of a hole make this one pale in comparison ("The Enemy").
Hope they pick it up next episode.

I haven’t watched the latest episode yet, but just going by some of the reviews in here, it sounds like it was just ok. Only one episode left and then another ridiculously long two year wait for season 4.
I really hope they can knock it out of the park for the finale, because in all honesty, as much as I’ve enjoyed this series overall, this latest season has been pretty sub-par save for two or three terrific episodes. 3rd season slump I guess?

Bing tells me it's Star Trek Day. What's the traditional Trekian gift for a 60th anniversary? A silver bat'leth?

60th Anniversary is supposed to be Diamonds. Is Crystal close enough? Perhaps a Dilithium Jubilee?

Yeah, I wanted to address this, but most of this season has been 'just okay' outside a couple fantastic episodes, but as to my point before, throwing a 'just okay' episode into a 26 Episode season in the past is not only fine, but to be expected.
In a 10 episode season? With huge production gaps? Its much less tolerable.
There was a 2-year gap, you cant tell me that no one had the time, budget or ingenuity to make it better.

It is a common survival myth that you need food right away. Water, yes, food not a priority.
I complained about a company safety manual that said we had to keep food in company trucks in case of emergency. I thought it was silly to keep a bunch of stale granola bars in there, but there was no requirement for water.

Gosh, what a left turn. Guess I'll just have to suck it up and do it again next year. Probably onto DS9 by then... hmmm... Quarks' Bar...

Ok, I finally watched this week's entry, and it was decent. Had a real mid-season TNG vibe. But as the second-last episode of a short 10 episode season, I was hoping for more. Still, I enjoyed it for what it was.

Did they cancel prodigy because it didn't pick up their target audience (instead, picking up older star trek fans who were willing to watch this style for lore advancement and canon?)
If so, is this their passive aggressive way of aiming even lower?
I don't understand what Paramount is doing with this property at all. I don't think they know what they're doing either.
