I wonder if Connor told Leon "Yes, sign long term. I'm here for life. You and me will take this team to places unimaginable." ... but he had his fingers crossed when he said that.
I think the conversation was probably more like this:
“Look Leon I really don’t want to re-sign here but I bet you’d get you way more money if we can convince management that I would never re-sign here if you didn’t first. Once they’ve overpaid you I’ll be able to get that much and then some from another team and you can just demand a trade to wherever I sign. The oilers might even have to retain some of your salary which would serve them right for wasting so many of our prime years.”

I love the oilers fans who think they're going to be able to trade him for a massive return if he doesn't sign. Dude has a full NMC, he's not going to cripple the team he's going to end up on by accepting a trade to them.
When he walks out the door as a free agent leaving the oilers with nothing but hurt feelings it's going to be glorious.
They can go back to draft lottery parties and being the team nobody wants to play for again.

Looks and sounds like a guy who desperately wants out.
Yes McDavid....let the hate for the Edmonton Media flow through you!! If you strike the Edmonton Media down in anger they'll become more powerful than you could possibly imagine!!

This is so good, I propose that we shut down this current thread and start the new one. It's just perfect. And it continues the grand tradition of E=NG threads being named from dumb things they themselves say.

It's very hard to tell how irritated someone afflicted with Resting in Edmonton Bitch-Face really is. I love the awkward back stretches as the wheels turn to slow roll how he really wants to react to the question.

He comes off a a jerk with his tone. You could tell he even thought about saying "no term" before saying it. You can't even defend it by saying it was off the cuff.

Hey Gregor, I can think of a lot of teams that McDavid would have a better chance to win than Edmonton. The team that has lost back to back finals to the Panthers has gotten worse over the summer. And the odds of getting to 3 finals in a row is pretty slim.

Let's list what Edmonton has that you'd honestly put on a list of things a team needs for McDavid to have the best chance to win.
Edmonton:
1. Draisaitl
That's it, that's the list. They have one thing other than McDavid that has given them a chance to win.
The same exercise done for other teams lists more than one. Things like an elite goaltender, #1s and #2s at D, coaching, and depth.
