WestCan Proton Therapy is the company that is making a $120 mil investment in a new cancer therapy center in Edmonton. Does not appear they even have a website and incorporated a few days before a big announcement in 2024. If you were making an investment of that size, wouldn't someone know who your business was? Why is this a new building being built when the Calgary Cancer center is already built and has the vaults ready to go, we just need the machines? Tougher to pull off the scam in a hospital setting.

The PPE scandal, Tylenol and more is the equivalent of you and I getting a $75 million contract to supply medical equipment and medication without us never really being in that business.

This goes on and on with the arena deal, all these transportation projects way over budget. The feds with all their BS every day. We got Transmountain pipeline built at 10-15x the budget cost. Nothing fishy going on I assume, Canada must just be that incompetent at building pipelines for oil.

Nobody in Canada gives a crap, we just shrug it off and don't pay attention when it's our political side.

I do have a bit of a beef with the start of your post. Not everyone is taking bribes. The problem when you say something like that is that you "both sides" the issue and then make it normal or acceptable because "why should we care if one party is taking bribes because everyone is taking bribes....".

But it is not true.

If our memory reaches back far enough, there was a whole thing ~12 years ago when some letters leaked from one of the big developers saying they hate Nenshi because he refused to take their bribes and allow them to do what they want. People would bag on Nenshi for all kinds of reasons but you couldn't say he was corrupt or took bribes.

I would happily support the most arrogant guy who constantly acted like he was the smartest guy in the room if I could be confident that he wasn't owned by corporate interests.

This is the punchline of the new class war. You have Corporatists and then you have Populists.
- The Conservatives and the Liberals are both Corporatists who will "drive the economy" and "unleash our companies" with the vague promise that the money will trickle down through job creation and stuff. These parties are the best funded because of their support from corporations and rich people.
- The NDP (and Green) are still trying to be parties for the people (true populists) and thus they are less well funded because they do not have the big rich donors and they rely heavily on grassroots donations and volunteers.

If you want to stop the cycle of corruption, vote for the party who will prioritize you over a faceless corporation.

Those pools aren't uneven because the league coordinator doesn't know how to count; we've had multiple teams fold this week because parents (understandably!) are refusing to sign the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act forms that were sent home. So what is the current, immediate effect of this government's new legislation? Fewer girls are getting involved in sports!!! One of the star players on my own team might not be able to play because her parents are so livid about having to complete this form.

Yeah it's more than decent but many people don't realize that the teachers must contribute heavily to this plan every month to the tune of ~$1000k for the duration of their career. It's not free money from the province which I've heard many dunces throw around in the media.

My kids school is losing a grade 1 teacher this week suddenly. 3 classes of 20 kids is being rejigged to 2 classes of 30...in grade 1!....because that is just too small by today's standards. Good luck teaching these kids how to read, write, and grow with those absurd numbers.

So embarrassing on so many levels that this is okay. It's one thing for high schools to have larger classes (not 40-45+) but pushing primary and early years to ~27-30 kids on average where so much 1-1 time is needed is appalling.
