I will say I love that he Northern characters all have Northern English accents and the Southern one has soft Southern English accents.

It does decrease. Also the dicks. It’s quite depressing. Sorry for the spoiler.

Game of Thrones.
Just started season 3.
I'm enjoying it, but we are getting more things that I struggle to engage with:
-dragons
-witches
-kids that can see things through animals
-zombies
I'll tough it out, but no spoilers please.

Stop watching at the end of season 5. It's when they ran out of books, and it's VERY noticeable.
I am honestly trying to save you from the pain of it all.

The single biggest whiplash for a show to go from cultural phenomenon to disregarded trash I've seen happen. I contend the final few seasons were a Brewster's Millions scenario for the showrunners.

Good on you guys I spose. LOST got caught up under the weight of its own mysteries but the show and writing stayed the same throughout. GoT went from objectively great TV to the worst piece of early SyFy channel trash the second they passed the books. Perhaps my tolerance for completely changing every major character, their motivations, and their actions is lower than others

GoT used to be a cultural phenomenon. Me and my friends would gather in each other's homes to have watch parties for this every Sunday! But then the latter seasons happened and nobody talks about the show anymore.

I've been working through The Leftovers and I was worried at the start that they wouldn't resolve the mystery of the people who departed. Now I don't care so much because I'm too focused on the ####ed up lives of the people who didn't disappear.
I'm at the start of season 3 and I'm still enjoying it. From the ratings the best is yet to come.

It suffers from Lindelofism. If you were disappointed by Lost you'll be disappointed by The Leftovers.
That said, it is generally a pretty good show. I've come around a bit on it with more reflection, but I still didn't like the ending.

Is there a GoT season to stop at, to avoid the crushing disappointment? I know people say 8 was bad, but is there an earlier point to just jump ship at? I've still yet to watch it, but really want to because of how much people rave about the earlier seasons.

Foundation has been good. Day and Dusk made some bold moves.
Season finale next week - taking on the Mule.

I found Season 1 disappointing, then I felt that it really found it's feet in Season 2 and I've been thoroughly enjoying Season 3.
Lee Pace is criminally under-rated.

Personally, I say watch it through to the end. Sure the quality drops off, but at least you'll see some payoff to some story threads that will never ever be delivered in the books.

To me, it's a disengenous way of storytelling.
The hook is the mystery, and the narrative is entirely built around that mystery until it becomes impossible to deliver a satisfying explanation. So they shift to relying on character in the hopes viewers will do the same and forget why they were watching in the first place.
If the characters were the strength of the show they would have started building from that foundation in the first place, instead of layering up from the mystery bedrock.
At least, like you mention, they jumped that shark early enough that people didn't have the prolonged ability to realize they were duped like Lost...but they were still swindled.

You fundamentally misunderstood the story if you thought it was "The mystery of why 2% of the population disappeared will be solved". The underlying source material was never about that, the TV show was never about that. That's a you issue, not a show issue.

I had some hopes that they would at least explain some of it, but I knew with the showrunner it had there was a solid possibility they wouldn't. I watched it anyway.
Shows like this don't set out to strictly be about any one thing, so it's not really a viewer or a show issue. It's a matter of preference, and I prefer a show that doesn't string you along for a half payoff.
