Pi! Earned the nickname because he was a math nerd apparently.
The stories back in the day were actually that the vets in Canucks camp when he was a rookie nicknamed him pie because his face was round, him being a math genius is a better angle if true though haha
Here are the key points about coaching the Flames:
Got a phone call on a Monday, met Huska on Wednesday, got hired by the weekend.
Liked where the team is going, and how hard they played last year.
Actually coached with Pringle during his first time around with the Flames.
Really familiar with everyone except Trent Cull.
Was fully prepared to sit and wait until the right opportunity came along, and this was the right opportunity.
No defined role yet, because of how late it is, and other guys already have defined roles. He will help wherever help is needed.
Players today are different. You can still be hard, be competitive, but the key is making players understand that when you get to the rink it is your happy place. So creating an environment where guys don't want to leave, and just want to come to the rink is key.
Found the transition to the new NHL player as easy. Always prided himself on communication. Players always know exactly where they stand, and you can't always beat them up, they have to know you care about them, they have to feel good about their game.
There were a couple more stories about stepping behind the bench with D. Sutter, after Sutter got suspended and Dave was injured. Stealing/taking the game scouting reports in 2003, following M. Crawford's example in VAN, and copying down Darryl's whiteboard notes because he wanted to coach in the future.

I love Dave Lowry. I will always remember hearing Peter Maher calling that bench-clearing brawl against Anaheim which resulted in 309 penalty minutes. I believe it was initiated by Lowry flipping the puck over the glass so Berube could get on the ice.
What an awful ####ing team that year, but that brawl was a highlight.
