Cap hit seems about perfect. I know there was speculation he'd get the Tyson Foerster (2 years, $3.75M AAV). So for Conroy to bring in Zary for 3 years at that rate? That's some tidy work in my eyes.

Happy this deal got done before training camp. Seems like a fair deal for both sides. Flames get low AAV and a reasonable qualifying offer and they don’t walk him to free agency. Zary gets a show me contract that gives him the chance to pull a Tkachuk if he’s not happy near the end of the deal (hopefully that doesn’t happen).
Now please play him at centre with skilled wingers and give him opportunities on the powerplay and overtime. Let’s see what he can be.

Good value signing, a bit worrisome it brings Zary within signing a qualifying offer and hitting UFA but his loss wouldn’t be felt nearly as much as Tkachuks was. Seems like a fair deal for both.

I doubt it's a risk. His QO will be around $4M. That is not going to be very good money in a couple years when guys like Kap are potentially getting close to $16M.
