Supposed hardware mockups for the iPhone 17 Pro and Air from a case maker's convention.

Just give me an iPhone flip phone.

iPhone flip phone would be pretty great. But something like the phone in Her, not these god forsaken folding phones that open into a tablet (which apparently is coming next year). “When folded it’s the size of large regular phone!” No. Gross.

Like literally just take the iPhone Pro and make it fold in half. Rake in a trillion dollars. The end.

Exactly. iPhone flip, not iPhone fold.

I'm not sure they'll ever do it though because they probably don't like how soft the screens have to be.

Somehow, I'd assume they'd just change the name. Like, iFold or something. Plus I also assume they might just have two screen vs a malleable screen and do something where the pixels go right to the edge to create something that looks like a single screen. So instead of a screen that constantly has to fold, it just has a few mm of screen that perhaps fold down at the hinge and the two panels meet up together when unfolded to create a continuous screen.

It would be cool if the phone was just a tube with a knob on the end where you just turn it to roll out the screen to as long as you want/need and the screen automatically adjusts to the size you roll out. Camera, speakers, and microphone would have to be fixed to the tube.

What if... you wear it as a bangle, but then it wireless connects to some type of headset?

I used to love the Apple Events but holy crap are they are just smug overhyping self fellating garbage.

Everything is the most advanced, game changing, most powerful EVERRRR.

And the iPhone AIR is dumb. Here's a super thin phone.. oh except for this bulging top, with an even more stand out camera lense. Enjoy!

Modern phones suck. I am really starting to understand the dumb phone fad.

There is nothing new hardware wise so just say here's the new phone with software updates and be done with it. These release events are just stupid now.

I bought a refurb almost new Iphone 14 Plus off Amazon for $500. I used to get Pro models. Now, its totally fine. Spending 2000 on a new phone that I wouldn't use much of the new features is not worth it.

Also the Air model, what is the point of that? Has thinness been a major compliant?

Especially when they talk about pioneering technology. Oh, you mean like 2-3 years after Samsung had it in their phones?

I think the Air is just a precursor to an iPhone fold.. just put two of them together with a hinge. Samsung has the Edge and then shortly after released a new fold.

Plus maybe it is an attempt to do something a bit different. It's thin enough that I bet in person it feels very cool so there should be a market for it.

I'd rather have the better cameras of a thicker phone but then again I'd have to think hard about sacrificing some camera ability for a flip phone.

On the bright side, my girlfriend needs to replace her iPhone 14 so this is a perfect opportunity for her to upgrade to the soon-to-be-discounted iPhone 16 Pro.

It’s new iPhone day? I remember being excited to see what’s coming out.

I’d like to see a folding phone with two screens instead of one with an annoying crease. I could use that for multitasking instead of doing one thing really big. Give me the Microsoft Courier, dammit.

Now that the sizes and form factors for the most part have been figured out and standardized, most updates going forward will be incremental. The only improvement that would excite me would be the next leap in battery technology.
