I just don't like what they have to offer. The only benefit if this is the way things shake out is that it makes Vegas better when it comes to Edmonton.

Preferred teams of choice for players always seem to be the tax haven locations. Problem is not everyone can play for Vegas, Tampa, Florida, Dallas

Since we own their 2026 first, I’d rather not make them any better. Especially with them lacking at D this year…. They can flame out.

I sure hope this isn’t the way the Flames are thinking about this. If Vegas can meet the price Conroy has set, they better pull the trigger. Not doing so over things you can’t control (other teams performances), would be foolish.
Besides, if we follow this logic, wouldn’t subtracting Andersson (presumably for futures) make the Flames worse thereby increasing their own chances of finishing towards bottom of the league/Mckenna?
If it comes down to strengthening Vegas and weakening yourself vs limiting Vegas and keeping yourself modestly competitive, I know which one I’d prioritize.
If the Flames can’t find a way to add an elite/superstar talent, we’re likely looking at a Detroit like rebuild here. At least that is what I would be most concerned about.

Of course they aren’t and of course it would be foolish. Great insight.

Agreed, but a you got to think another team would match a 2027 1st round pick as the base. There’s not much that Vegas has that is enticing. It will be interesting too see what they end up getting but feel like they missed the window last offseason to get the best value.

Okay. Sorry.
I must have misunderstood when you said ‘I’d rather not make them any better’.
My bad.

If I'm the Flames - I would be looks ng at later year picks. 2027, 2028.
By then - the teams picks over last 3 years should be popping. Most veterans gone. And those picks could be used in packages for big deals.

Having more chances at DuPont in ‘27 isn’t the worst thing in the world either

Vegas is a lousy trading partner. I am not an expert on their prospect base, but it's ranked pretty low by most who are. From the Vegas perspective, they can barely sign Holtz even with the Pieterangelo salary going onto LTIR, so they would have to send us money back. The best option for them, especially if his career is indeed done, is to send the Flames Pieterangelo's salary. What is the right price for the Flames to bail out a division rival by helping them with the cap and giving them one of the best RH d-men on the market? '27 first, '28 first and someone like Jakob Ihs-Wozniak (pulled that name out of the air)? I don't know, but it should be a lot.

That would be a pretty good deal even taking on Pietrangelo, doubt that Vegas would give up that much.
