A $60k annual pension is similar to having saved around $2mm after tax dollars for retirement. I don't believe teachers are contributing that amount.
I'm all about reasonable pay. But the big incentive is retirement years.
Plus I hate screwed facts on both sides. Class sizes are all over the place. Both my kids class sizes over last 6 years have always been low 20s in size.

Where do you get $60k? My wife is nearing maximum pension and from what I can see it is nowhere close to that (it is still a nice pension but not $60k).
At her elementary school all the classes are 30+. My daughter's grade 10 science class has 49 students.

That's what happens when the government eliminates reporting on class sizes.
49 students in a classroom is absurd. Everyone should be angry at that.

Kids aren't allowed to go outside to play, aren't allowed to read, are forced in elementary to memorize a bunch of facts, will be outed by teachers if they are LGBTQ, have to prove they have two x chromosomes to participate in sports with other children, and will miss instructional hours because the adults couldn't agree. It all feels super dystopian.

This is what Alberta voted for. Like it or not, these are your neighbors and fellow citizens. And they'll do it again...

How is the teachers pension calculated? For many federal government employees it’s 2% average of your 5 best years times years worked so 2% of 100k is $2000 times 30 years worked = $60k/ year pension.

Maybe we could start a new thread about teacher pensions and bump that every 4 months instead of doing it here every time.

What do you mean?
Pension income is income in retirement and pension income comes out of rrsp room. Regular people can contribute 18% up to 30k plus you have a TFSA for the other 2%.
Pension income is taxable.

I can tell you with certainty that is unusual. I’ve been teaching Grades 5 & 6 in this city for 12 years and the smallest class I had was 21 in 2014. All the others have been 24+.
For the record I don’t think 24 is too big. But I’ve had classes in the 30’s and when you have 32 11 year olds in a room it sucks.

The Tyee has a number of stories about Gina Rinehart and the UCP and the degree to which she lobbied the UCP to get the coal mine rammed through.

A content creator is your source that a number of UCP members have received massive bribes?
I suppose you could find a content creator somewhere on the internet to say anything, but I wouldn’t believe everything that a content creator says.

I believe in the Jays.
|
The dumbest thing about the book ban is that they did the government action and then when it was followed through on they got huffy about the "classics" being removed and then said basically said "leave the classics remove the smut"... if their plan was for each school to make value judgements about what constituted smut and appropriate reading material then they could have literally just done nothing. They were basically just admitting that it was all just virtue signaling at taxpayer expense.

We all know that they want to ban the LGBTQ books, and that is really all this comes down to. They just haven't got the backbone to come right out and admit it.

Well, they also don't want kids to learn about their bodies and sex in a healthy way, as evidenced by it becoming opt-in. This is a Christofascist government forcing their harmful views on children. That's the point of it. Taking out LGBTQ is just part of the package.

Pretty decent. And I believe their pensions are index adj for inflation too.
