Most people are non-car people. Most non-car people's opinions on enthusiast cars are irrelevant.
Just because most people are stupid doesn't make them right, it makes them confidently wrong.

Oh noes, my taste in cars doesn't live up to the high design standards of the forum noise-maker and Subaru driver.
Moving on...

The Emira is sooo tempting. I was close to putting a deposit down when they were first announced...I love the way the car looks, I love that it has a NA Toyota engine, I love that it's not another Porsche...I just couldn't pull the trigger when it came to it. Probably because my station in life didn't allow for the risk of buying an early run Lotus? Like you do though, it's definitely on my radar for the future. Come on depreciation....

I am not a particularly smart man, but I know that if there's ever an option to get the V8...get the V8.
The F-Type is a beaut. Too bad you could never get them with a manual (atleast as far as I'm aware). You ever try the Lexus LC? I feel like it would have similar vibes...and the NA V8 in that thing is glorious.

Speaking of potentially controversial car designs...a new Audi TT concept was released.
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...ports-car-2027
On one hand, It's a departure from what they have now and like that it doesn't have 50 things going on....but on the other, it reminds me a little too much of that slab-sided Jaguar. Not a huge fan of the minimization of windows either.

Sorry, I didn't know having opinions on matters of taste was not permitted, and might lead to hurt feelings. You are welcome to have a vehicle you enjoy, and I take not issue with that. It's great people enjoy different things. I didn't tell you to sell it or you shouldn't like it. I think they are ugly. It's OK.

Those of us who appreciate cars will keep enjoying the 'ugly' Porsches while you Google for validation. Maybe there's a thread somewhere on the forum about wine, you can tell everyone about the nice crisp Franzia you paired with your hamburger Happy Meal yesterday.

First the Jag, and now this Audi concept, it really strikes me as design via "1990s Batman cartoon".

I've been humming and hawing on a 1980 924 Turbo, but am still apprehensive due to the potential maintenance costs if something goes really south (beyond my mechanical skills). It's an opportunity to get into a fun car with some wrenching/maintenance on the weekends. But more importantly, I find myself wanting to partake in some runs and what not with fellow enthusiasts. We drove from Kelowna down to Balfour this past week, and I can totally see how enjoyable carving that road would be in a vintage Porsche, with a group of people, stopping to stay overnight in small little towns at the local motels.
But on the flip side, we also want to buy another trailer and my budget right now does not allow for both the Porsche and the trailer. I'll probably go trailer as there's more benefit to family and making memories, but dangit I want to choose something for me for once!

Oh I take zero issue with you not liking the car. 911s definitely have their quirks, and I'm well aware that plenty of people hate the look of them (no Googling needed to confirm!). I just thought it was funny to get such a cocky design critique from a guy who’s knowledge of these cars seems to be about as deep as “red car” and “blue car”.

Let's hope that the Emira follows the same vein as the Elise/Exige/Evora where used prices have remained strong but the cars are still reasonably affordable.
Jaguar actually made a manual V6 F-Type (RWD in 340HP/380HP variants) between 2016-2019 and take up was less than 4%. I believe just over a thousand manual F-Types were built so they are rare. They are of course more desirable and expensive now. The manual gearbox was not a world beater and gets mixed reviews, I'd likely still opt for a ZF8 equipped V6 F-Type as it is such a damn good transmission and suits the GT nature of the F-Type. I told my wife that maybe we need a V6 vert and a V8 coupe!
I really like the LC, although I have not driven one. Would certainly be more reliable long term and will surely hold value better. I like the aesthetic of the F-Type more, Ian Callum just got it right when he penned the car.

That would be a fun car if you're able and willing to do some wrenching yourself. Pretty straightforward mechanically. I have always liked the clean lines of the 924, they are uber rare now in any guise. If you really want to spend the bank, Bruce Canepa has a basically new 1981 924 Carrera GT in Guards Red for sale, beautiful car!

I'll take the win here. Audi's designers have completely lost the plot, and the majority of their lineup has turned into trash designed to pander to the Chinese market.

I say do it, the 924/944 are pretty much just like any other car when it comes to wrenching, but they don't have as many body issues (rust) due to the galvanizing. Great car to enter the brand on. Even my boxster is pretty straightforward.

Yeah, the more I look at it, the more I don't mind this. It's a concept car, so some things are definitely taken to an extreme...but atleast there is some sort of vision here. It actually kind of reminds me of that Quattro concept from about 15 years ago...just a more brutalist take.

I love the LC from a side profile, but some of the angles feel too busy. The Jag on the other hand looks beautiful from all sides imo. Having said that, the interior of the LC will blow it out of the water....of course it will blow pretty much anything south of 200K out of the water, as it's spectacular for the price point. And the V8 just sounds soooo good.
Both are future classics.

The 924/944 are great if you do your own work. If you don't, I would personally suggest staying away. They are still expensive to fix because you're dealing with Porsche shop pricing, and their inherent value is just not high enough to make it worth throwing too much money at it.

Credit where credit is due, the LC500 looks decent (even for an overdesigned Toyota product), the interior is quite nice, and the noise it makes is fecking superb.
Thing is, with the Jag F-Type... it's faster, more beautiful, also makes a great noise, and the aftermarket support is awesome. Velocity AP alone can do everything; exhausts, engine and transmission ECU tunes, lightweight brakes, supercharger pulleys for both the V6 and V8 cars, ported TVS2300 superchargers, and engine internals kits. From mild to wild. Just a tune on the V8 F-Type puts it at 605 horsepower.

It's okay Fuzz. I'm a car guy and I think Porsches are a little overrated. They are amazing vehicles but the styling over the decades has always been good, not exotically beautiful, and the pricing has become obscene for a brand that does not have the prestige of Ferrari or Lamborghini.

I think Porsche's value proposition (relatively speaking) is still great, and probably as good or better than it's been for a while.
If you think the price / prestige ratio of a Porsche is out of whack because the C4S is $200k (for example), then you might want to avert your eyes from the Ferrari and Lambo price lists... Like for like, Porsche represents phenomenal value when compared to those other brands... and that's before factoring in TCO including depreciation, etc.

I was just in France and saw this wonderful red car I just had to take a picture of. If only I was a "car guy" I'd know why I was drawn to it. Oh well! Shame about the paint. No, I didn't see any in blue.
